Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many manufacture copanies use higher levels of sugar in food and drink citizens . That will cause many sympotms in bodies,Sates provide very expensive charge with extra taxes for puplic to consume less.

On the first hand, I agree compines is higher level of sugar is unhealthy for cause many problems in bodies. It's compines not cleraly about their products because they have prices incrase then conumers use to fresh fruit and colder drink health. This is revelnts for peoples usually buy higher levels of food and drink.

Secondly, a tax on sugary products could raise additional revenue that governments could use to improve public health. The money collected could be spent on nutrition education, school health programmes and campaigns explaining the risks of excessive sugar consumption. Such initiatives could help people understand that a high-sugar diet may increase the risk of problems such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Therefore, the policy could have both a financial and an educational benefit.

However, increasing prices alone may not completely solve the problem. Some people may continue buying sugary products despite higher prices, while others could switch to different unhealthy foods. For this reason, governments should combine taxation with measures such as clearer nutritional labels, restrictions on advertising aimed at children and better access to affordable healthy foods.

n conclusion,I agree that sugary products should be made more expensive because higher prices can discourage excessive consumption and provide governments with additional resources for health programmes. Nevertheless, price increases should be part of a broader strategy to promote healthier eating habits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether sugary products should be taxed to reduce consumption. The writer expresses a clear viewpoint and supports it with relevant arguments, such as raising government revenue for health programmes and the need for broader strategies like nutritional labelling. However, the development of ideas varies. While the second and third body paragraphs present well-supported points, the opening paragraph and the second paragraph contain underdeveloped, repetitive, and slightly unclear ideas, such as "compines is higher level of sugar is unhealthy for cause many problems." This places the response in the mid-range where relevant ideas are presented, but some are insufficiently developed or unclear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression. The writer uses standard transitional markers to structure the response, such as "Secondly", "However", and "In conclusion", which help guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, including the introduction, arguments for taxation, counterarguments regarding alternative measures, and the conclusion. Nevertheless, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, particularly in the opening paragraphs where referencing is unclear and sentence transitions feel disjointed, such as moving abruptly from manufacture companies to public health charges. This meets the criteria for a coherent overall structure that requires smoother transitions and more precise referencing to reach higher levels.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating appropriate topic-specific terms such as "revenue", "public health", "nutrition education", and "obesity and type 2 diabetes". However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text. Instances such as "manufacture copanies", "sympotms", "puplic", and awkward phrasing like "prices incrase then conumers use to fresh fruit and colder drink health" impede smooth reading and reveal a restricted control of less common lexical items. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the central arguments, frequent lexical errors and spelling mistakes prevent the response from achieving a higher band descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting sophisticated structures such as conditional and concessive clauses in sentences like "Some people may continue buying sugary products despite higher prices, while others could switch to different unhealthy foods." There are, however, several errors in grammar, article usage, word forms, and subject-verb agreement, including "Many manufacture copanies use..." and "compines is higher level of sugar." Punctuation errors are also present, such as missing spaces after commas in the conclusion ("conclusion,I agree"). These errors occur throughout the text, but they rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical control squarely within the mid-range expectations.
