Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are various types of foods and drinking products available in market which contain a lot of sugar. After having these products people may suffer from numerous health issues. However, many people suggest that authority should increase the prices of sugary products. And that step will encourage people to eat limited sugary items. I do not agree with this assertion as it will affects domestic development and middle class family will not be able to buy these items in times of need.

There are several companies that make a great amount of profit by producing diary and sweet items. For instance, Mr.Baker, Bonoful Sweet, Kazi farms Coca Cola they produce different types of dairy and drinking products. They make a handsome amount of revenue each year and give taxes to the govt. by which govt. use these money for the wellfare of our country and citizens. In addition, each country's large company contribute a lot to the domestic economy. They take necessary steps in pendamic, in times of national crisis. They collaborate with authority whenever country face any difficulties. So if they can't earn revenue then they will not be able to contribute in social wellfare.

Sweet items are the representation of any good news. Its a kind of tradition to serve and distribute sweet items in neighbourhood and relatives whenever anyone heard a good news. For example, when a new baby born in a family, anyone do well in any exams, get a good job. Moreover, many people take sweet items when they feel low energetic or in a bad mood. I personally am a sweet lover. When i feel sad or hungry but can't eat right that moment I tend to have a chocolate or a soft drink. It instantly lightened up my mood and makes me productive. So if authority increase the prices or add extra taxes over them it will raise the price. Consequently, people who earns a little will face a lot of problems.

In conclusion, I think authority should raise awarness about the drawbacks of eating sweet products rather than increase its value. And it needs a balanced plan to overcome this issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance against increasing the prices of sugary products, arguing instead for public awareness. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed in places. For instance, the argument regarding the economic impact on large companies and their role during a pandemic is tangential and lacks clear connection to the core issue of individual sugar consumption. Similarly, the points about cultural traditions and personal mood enhancement are presented as somewhat simplistic examples without deep elaboration. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to explore more directly how taxation affects consumer behavior and present fully extended, relevant arguments concerning health and economics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation in the essay, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas across the text, as paragraphs shift abruptly from economic taxation to cultural traditions. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or over-used, such as the repetitive starting phrases like 'There are several companies' and 'Sweet items are'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow of sentences within paragraphs often feels mechanical and disjointed. To improve, the writer should ensure smoother transitions between ideas and use a wider, more natural range of cohesive links to connect sentences and paragraphs logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic points about food, health, and economy. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'drinking products' instead of beverages, 'diary' instead of dairy, and 'wellfare' instead of welfare. Other lexical slips, such as 'anyone do well in any exams' and 'low energetic', may cause some difficulty for the reader. The range is restricted to everyday words, and attempts at less common vocabulary often result in inaccurate forms. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire with accurate, context-appropriate phrasing and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are numerous grammatical errors involving verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'authority should increase' (omitting the article), 'it will affects' (incorrect verb form after a modal), 'people who earns' (agreement error), and 'when a new baby born' (missing auxiliary verb). Punctuation and capitalization errors, such as lowercase 'i', are also present. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must focus on mastering basic agreement, accurate verb tenses in complex clauses, and reliable punctuation.
