Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many soft drinks have to much sugar which have bad affect on over health to high sugar level and eroted our health, drinks should be more expensive, to get out of range from the people.

It is true that many drinks which we consume in our daily routine have many calories and which effect our health in long terms, but this is not a solution to make them expensive. people who are addicted to these drink will buy them at any cost and due to this reason, companies have more profit which have bad consequences in the environment.

In some extend, it is a good thing, people who have money will buy the product and people who do not have range to afford this, will not buy the drink. This strategy has good as well as negative impact on the society, if we see it in a positive way, it will help people to improve their health and get rid of this addiction and when we take it in a negative way, we will think, it is totally unexceptable to rise the price and we are not able to afford it. If we want a permanent solution we have to ban these companies from further destruction.

In conclusion, I think it is not a good thing to rise the prices, rather than that we have to think about permanent solution of how to improve these drinks and make then safe for customers, and which do not effects their health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task minimally, presenting a position on whether sugary products should be made more expensive, but the ideas remain underdeveloped and repetitive. The writer touches upon both sides of the argument, mentioning affordability and health impacts, yet the reasoning lacks depth and extension. Additionally, it must be noted that the length requirement is not met, as the response is slightly under the required minimum word count. To move towards a higher band, the writer needs to fully explore their main ideas with clearer examples and ensure the full word count is achieved.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation evident with a clear attempt at paragraphing, moving from an introduction to arguments and a conclusion. However, the overall progression lacks strong logical flow, and cohesive devices are frequently inadequate or repetitive. For instance, transitional phrases between sentences are weak, making the progression somewhat mechanical. Referencing can also be unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'this strategy has good as well as negative impact'. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more accurately and ensure smoother transitions between ideas and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, reflecting a limited range that is only minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable lexical errors in word choice and form, such as 'over health' instead of overall health, 'eroted' instead of eroded, and 'unexceptable' instead of unacceptable. These errors and miscollocations cause some difficulty for the reader and stem from attempts to use less common vocabulary without full control. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and minimize spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty complex forms. Frequent grammatical errors are present, including issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'many soft drinks have to much sugar which have bad affect', incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentence structures like comma splices. Punctuation is also inconsistently handled. These frequent errors disrupt the reading flow and can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer should practice forming accurate complex sentences and gain better control over basic grammatical patterns, tense consistency, and punctuation.
