Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, companies like to make foods and drinks which are high in sugar content, that cause numerous health hazards. Some people argue that sugary products should be more expensive that leads to consume less sugary products. I agree with this statement but there are more ways that control people.

To begin with, majority of people buy that sugary drink because it is adorable. So government need to put tax on companies by which make that sugary drink bit expensive that normal people do not think about that drinks to buy. Hence the sales of companies goes down so divert their focus from sugary drinks to healthy drinks. Moreover, government can use company's money which they collect from them in the form of tax to make another kind of infrastructure like hospitals, schools. For example, schools should provide healthy meals to students to make their diet balance this encourage the healthy lifestyle.

Furthermore, the government ought to organize awareness companions in public places that aware people about the bad effects on the health of sugary beverages. Therefore, people would become health conscious. In addition, administration should order companies to put labels on their products so that people can check before consume.

In conclusion, not only sugary products should be made more expensive by putting heavy tax on manufacturing companies to reduce consumption sugary products but also there are many different ways which people can use to reduce the consumption like awareness camps in public places and companies add label on products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that sugary products should cost more, and you also propose awareness campaigns and product labels. These points address the question and are relevant. The tax argument is supported with a possible effect on sales, while the suggestion that tax revenue could fund healthier school meals adds a useful example. However, some ideas are not fully explained: for instance, you say higher prices will shift companies towards healthy drinks, but do not explain why this change would follow. The discussion also focuses more on government action than on how consumers might respond to higher prices. Developing the cause-and-effect reasoning and supporting each main point more precisely would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different measures, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing expressions such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. The progression is generally logical, but some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Hence the sales of companies goes down so divert their focus” compresses several steps without clearly showing how one leads to the next. The conclusion also repeats the body points rather than drawing them together. Use clearer referencing and more precise links between claims, explanations, and examples to make cohesion smoother and less dependent on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “health hazards,” “tax,” “awareness,” “healthy lifestyle,” and “consumption.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas, and some choices show an attempt to use more formal wording. However, noticeable word-choice and collocation problems sometimes make the meaning less natural: “adorable” does not fit the intended meaning of affordable, “awareness companions” is not the correct expression, and “make their diet balance” is awkward. Repetition of “sugary products” and “people” also limits flexibility. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations, such as “raise the price,” “reduce sugar intake,” and “public-awareness campaigns,” and check that each word expresses the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “so that,” and the overall message is usually understandable. However, control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “Some people argue that sugary products should be more expensive that leads to consume less,” where the clause structure is incomplete, and “Hence the sales of companies goes down so divert their focus,” which lacks a clear grammatical subject for “divert.” There are also agreement and article problems, as in “majority of people” and “the sales … goes down.” Practise building complex sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when combining clauses.
