Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern era of life ,people usually consume the numerous manufactured food and drinks products that contain high levels of sugar , which trigger the number of serious health consquences . Although, if the we could made the sugary products more expensive it encourage people to consume less, however i believe it's might be the not a long-term option to tackle this issue, i partially agree with this opinion because we should adopt a balanced approch.

In my view, the price hiking might be a better approch to encourage public for the reduction of sugar. Firstly, the availability of sugary drink and food at low prices become an choice for people. Similary, if governments would increase the costs many people can quite them because of their low purchasing power. For example, if state made the sting energy drink expensive than now many youngester might be stop buying the drink. Therefore, the solution of making the food and drinks expensive might be display some short term impacts.

However, raise the price of sugary drinks and food might be fail to give long term outcomes. Furthermore, boost of costs could not present effects of reduction of consuming because people would go for other alternatives . Moreover, numerous drinks made people addictive to them , so if we make them expensive it does not mean public will quite the purchasing of drinks. For instance, in Pakistan recent inflation also affects on the costs of drinks and foods , it become expensive then before , whereas the consumption of them have not decreased it remained the same . Therefore , price surge might be has some positive outcomes but it's not ab long term soultion ,states should consider other options to encourage people.

In conclusion, although expensive food and drinks could effects on it's consumption , whereas raise of costs should fail to presnets some long term consequences . However, if governmnets would adopt balanced approch such as considering other options with price hiking it can display significant impacts.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you partially agree that higher prices can reduce consumption, but argue that pricing alone is not a lasting solution. You address both sides and support them with relevant examples, including the energy drink example and your observation about inflation in Pakistan. This meets the task well, though some points are more fully explained than others. For instance, the claim that people may switch to alternatives is relevant, but you do not explain whether those alternatives would also be sugary or how this affects the policy’s success. The Pakistan example would be stronger with clearer support for the claim that consumption stayed unchanged. Develop these points and explain what complementary measures governments should adopt to make your position more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the possible short-term benefit of higher prices, a contrasting paragraph about their limitations, and a conclusion. The progression from partial agreement to a qualified conclusion is easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “Therefore.” At times, though, these devices feel mechanical or are used in ways that do not clearly express the relationship between ideas; for example, “although” and “whereas” are combined awkwardly in the conclusion. Some references, such as “them” in the discussion of alternatives and drinks, are not fully clear. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make links between claims explicit, with each paragraph developing one main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “purchasing power,” “consumption,” “alternatives,” and “long-term outcomes,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “price hiking,” “quite them” when you mean stop buying them, “display some short term impacts,” and “ab long term soultion.” Repetition of “expensive,” “drinks,” and “food” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural topic-specific combinations and check spelling carefully. More precise choices such as “increase prices,” “reduce consumption,” and “produce short-term effects” would make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures and clauses introduced by “although,” “because,” and “whereas.” This gives the response some variety, but control is inconsistent: complex sentences are often faulty, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to interpret. For example, “if the we could made … it encourage” has problems with the subject and verb forms, while “the consumption … have not decreased it remained the same” joins clauses without correct agreement or punctuation. Articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries also need attention. Practise building accurate conditional sentences and separating independent clauses. For example: “If the government raised prices, some people might stop buying these drinks.”
