Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely believed that increased levels of sugar in food and drink products acts as an catalyst in development of health problems among people of several age groups and increase in sugar prices would lead to widespread discouragement among people ot consume less sugar. However, I firmly agree to this statement.
One compelling reason for this stance is that increaed consumption of this products with higher levels of sugar is the leading cause of health problems particularly, diabetes across multiple age groups. It also leads to development of other problems which are detrimental in long run. People consuming this kind of products not only develop chronic illness but also leads to decline in apetite as this food products acts as an instant source energy people are heavily depenndent on it to replinish their energy while working for long hours especially students during exam. This leads them to a well balanced diet which is required for hre proper functioning of their body. Increasing the prices of this products containing high level of sugar will force people to find alternative healthy options to replenish their energy minimizing the risk of any chronic illness associated with it. Also, higher prices would also cause less affordability among common people such as students and elderly since they always have a fixed budget helping them to live a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
In conclusion, I strongly agree with the idea that higher prices for sugary products would minimize the occurence of problems related to health and aiding them in leading a healthy lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I firmly agree”) and conclusion, and you give relevant reasons: health risks and the possibility that higher prices will encourage people to choose healthier alternatives. This addresses the question, but the support is uneven. The link between sugary products and diabetes is stated rather than explained, while the discussion of students relying on these products for energy introduces a useful example but becomes unclear when you say this leads to a balanced diet. Explain more directly how price changes would alter purchasing habits, and develop one specific example or consequence. A clearer distinction between the health argument and the affordability argument would also make your response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from a clear position to supporting reasons and a concluding restatement. Linking phrases such as “One compelling reason,” “Also,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, the body paragraph contains several ideas in a long sequence, and the connection between reliance on sugary products, appetite, and a balanced diet is difficult to follow. Some references, including “this kind of products” and “it,” do not make the intended meaning fully clear. Organise the health effects and the price-and-choice argument into separate, focused paragraphs, and use clearer references to the products or their effects. This would strengthen progression and make cohesion less dependent on signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “chronic illness,” “detrimental,” “affordability,” and “sustainable lifestyle,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural choices that reduce precision, such as “acts as an catalyst,” “decline in apetite,” and “instant source energy.” Spelling errors such as “increaed,” “dependdent,” and “occurence” are noticeable, and some phrases repeat “products” and “health problems.” Choose collocations carefully and proofread spelling; for example, “a source of energy” and “reduce the risk of chronic illness” are more natural. Greater accuracy with these expressions would make your vocabulary more effective and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “which is required for…” and a conditional relationship between higher prices and consumer choices. The main position remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “products acts” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “as an catalyst” has an article error. In “People consuming this kind of products not only develop chronic illness but also leads,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the paired structure is incomplete. Several sentences also run together multiple clauses, making their relationships hard to track. Practise agreement, articles, and parallel constructions, and divide long sentences where needed to improve control and accuracy.
