Student answer (Band 5.5)

Sugary beverages are common in todays world. Most of the food and drinks items made of high concentration of sugar therefore it may cause severe diseases. Many people argue that sugary products need to be more expensive so that people will less motivate to buy those and minimum sugar will be consumed. Though sugar contain food and drinks give instant refreshment, it demerits outweigh it merits. Consequently, I strongly agree with that statement due to low accessibility and affordiability.

It is clear that, accessibility is a major issue in terms of buying things. If the prices increase for sugary beverages, there will be less demand of those. Hence, the supply will saw a sharp decline over the times. By regulating properly of those items after the price will have been increased, a consistant decrease in supply will be looked. For instance, some reports show that one dollar increase of ice-cream decrease the supply of it near about 20% because of low demand.

Another plausible reason is affordiability. People often buy things which are more affordable to them. Increasing sugary beverage products price will trigger the mind of the consumer therefore there will be a low chance to buy those. In response to that, the regulator should add extra taxes on sugary product and in contary, low the taxes should assign for organic food and drinks such as raw fruit juices, vegetables and fruits. Such necessary steps will lead the people from the unhealthy choices to helathy choices.

In conclusion, though consuming healthy or unhealthy items is personal concerns, some important rules such as increasing taxes to sugary products may lead the people toward choicing healthy lifestyle by decreasing the consumption of those. Consequently, less sugary items consumption may lead one to healthy lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that sugary products should cost more, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give two relevant reasons—reduced purchasing when prices rise and the influence of affordability—and suggest taxing sugary products while lowering taxes on healthier alternatives. These points address the question, but they are not developed equally. The claim that higher prices reduce supply is not clearly connected to the main issue of consumers eating less sugar, and the ice-cream example is presented as a report without enough context or explanation. Explain more directly how price changes affect consumption and support your claims with a specific, credible example to develop the argument more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Hence,” “Another plausible reason,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “Hence, the supply will saw a sharp decline” shifts from consumer demand to supply without explaining the relationship, and “By regulating properly of those items” makes the next point difficult to follow. The conclusion also repeats the idea of reducing consumption rather than drawing the argument together. Use clearer links between cause and effect, and make each paragraph progress from its main claim to explanation and relevant support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “high concentration of sugar,” “extra taxes,” “organic food,” and “unhealthy choices,” and you attempt more formal expressions such as “plausible reason.” This gives you a workable range for discussing the issue. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less precise: “low accessibility” does not clearly express the intended effect of higher prices, while “the supply will saw a sharp decline” uses an unsuitable phrase. There are also errors such as “affordiability,” “consistant,” and “helathy.” Build accuracy by learning common collocations for prices, demand, and consumption, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Though sugar contain food and drinks give instant refreshment” and conditional reasoning about price increases. However, complex structures are not consistently controlled, and some errors make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. For example, “Most of the food and drinks items made of high concentration of sugar therefore it may cause severe diseases” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “People often buy things which are more affordable to them” is more controlled. Review subject–verb agreement, sentence boundaries, and clause construction; for instance, separate the opening claim from its consequence and ensure each clause has a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of these patterns would make your argument easier to follow.
