Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many health problems are caused due to the high level contain of suger in many maufactured food and drink products. I believe that sugar should be made more expensive so that it will motivate people to consume less.

There are many food items with high sugar contain which is eventually hazardious for health but still people tend to buy such products because of the taste. Such products should be avoided or else various health issues like diabeties, cholestole will increase. If sugar is made expensive then people will look for a replacement such as brown sugar or jaggery which is healthy and will not create any other health issues. For instance, a person who consume tea with sugar can replace with jaggery which will give same experience like sugar.

People must be made aware of the food and drink products that has high level sugar and should be educated with the bad effects of it. Campagins should be undertaken to make them understand what should be consumed and what should not. This way people will be aware and less health issues will be caused. For example, if a person knows the level of sugar in a product he will eventually try to look for healthy food items.

In conclusion, sugary products should be made expensive so that people try to find a healthier replacement and less health issues are occured. A campagin should be conducted in order to educate people regarding issues that are created due to high level of sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support making sugary products more expensive, and the conclusion restates this view. You also address the issue through two relevant points: consumers may choose alternatives, and public education could help reduce consumption. The tea-and-jaggery example gives one idea some support. However, the argument that jaggery is a healthy replacement is asserted rather than explained, and the education paragraph shifts attention away from the proposed price increase without showing how the two measures relate. To develop the response further, explain how higher prices might change purchasing habits, acknowledge a possible limitation such as the effect on low-income consumers, and support each main point with clearer reasoning or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct points, and a conclusion. The progression from price changes to education is understandable, and examples are introduced with “For instance” and “For example.” However, the links between ideas are sometimes mechanical, with repeated use of “people,” “products,” and “health issues.” The second body paragraph also introduces campaigns without clearly connecting them to the central argument about making sugary products more expensive. Some references are unclear, such as “This way,” which does not specify exactly how awareness leads to reduced health problems. Use more precise referencing and transitions that show how each paragraph supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “manufactured food and drink products,” “replacement,” “health issues,” and “educated,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. Examples include “high sugar contain,” “hazardious,” “diabeties,” “cholestole,” and “Campagins.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “give same experience like sugar” and “less health issues are occured.” Aim to use accurate topic-specific phrases and check spelling carefully. More precise wording for health effects and consumer behaviour would help you express the argument with greater clarity and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If sugar is made expensive then people will look for a replacement” and a relative clause in “products that has high level sugar.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “a person who consume” needs subject–verb agreement, while “products that has” also requires agreement. In “a person knows … he will eventually try,” the pronoun reference is awkward, and the final sentence has an incorrect passive construction in “health issues are occured.” Articles and plural forms are also sometimes missing. Work on agreement, sentence patterns, and passive forms while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
