Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many products such as food and drinks consists of high levels of sugar which causes sever health issues. some people believe that these products become more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar and maintain good health. I strongly agree this statement because high prices can reduce consumption of sugar intake and maintain better health conditions.

To begin with, one of the main reason I agree this view because nowdays most of sugar contained products are easily available and effortable. For example, softdrinks and sweets were highly sugary contained products that mainly causes sever health problems to every person. Therefore, government need to take action on this situation by rose the taxes of the sugar contained products which were sell in market this changes bring better health conditions for every citizen.

Furthermore, another important region excessive intake of sugar leads to sever health problems such as diabetes, obesity and tooth decay. This problems causes decrease lifetime of person and increase helathcare costs. To avoid this condtions government will be take serious action by increasing price tags of sugay products and need to ban which contain high sugar levels. Moreover, government should provide infomation about effects of high intake of sugars through health camps or providing television adds and encourage people with other sugarfree products.

In conclusion, I strongly agree this view because high intake of sugar causes many health problems so government need to made more expensive by increasing taxes on sugar products leads to encourage people to avoid or consume less sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that higher prices can reduce sugar consumption. You give relevant reasons, including the easy availability of sugary products and health effects such as diabetes, obesity and tooth decay, and you suggest taxes and public information campaigns. However, some points are asserted rather than explained; for example, the link between higher prices and improved health is not illustrated with a specific example or developed explanation. The suggestion to ban high-sugar products also introduces a different policy without explaining how it fits your main argument. The response is 246 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop your supporting points further and add a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs beginning with “To begin with” and “Furthermore,” and a conclusion. This makes your main position and supporting reasons easy to locate. You also use linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “Moreover.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “This changes bring better health conditions” does not clearly show how the proposed tax leads to the result, and the second body paragraph moves from health effects to taxes, bans and information campaigns without fully organising these ideas. Use clearer referencing and explain the relationship between each point. A more focused paragraph structure, with one main idea developed at a time, would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “high levels of sugar,” “health problems,” “diabetes,” “obesity,” “tooth decay” and “healthcare costs,” so the reader can follow your main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “increasing price tags” and “sugar-free products.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make the writing less clear or natural: “effortable” appears to mean “affordable,” “region” is used where “reason” is intended, and “sugay” and “infomation” are misspelled. Some phrases, such as “sugar contained products,” are also awkward. Build a bank of accurate collocations for taxation, consumption and health, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause in “because high prices can reduce consumption” and a relative clause in “products which were sell in market.” This shows an effort to express relationships between ideas, and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate, as in “products … consists,” “government need to take action,” and “government will be take serious action.” There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, such as “This problems causes” and the lowercase “some” after the opening full stop. These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise subject–verb agreement and consistent verb patterns, and proofread each sentence for complete, correctly punctuated clauses.
