Student answer (Band 5.5)

Many manufactured food and drink goods cosists of high levels of sugar, which attracts many health issues. Sugary products should be made coastlier to encourage people to consume less sugar.I agree with the advice and i have written my point of view below.

Firstly, everybody loves eating sweet foods and drinks because sugar consumption can realese a harmon called dopamine. Morover, the dopamine harmon gives us a feeling of joy or satisfaction. As a result we crave more for it. Consequently, our brain crave for sugary products more than anything else. Furthermore, we might end up being addicted to sugar. But this can be reversable if we remove totally sugary food or at least control the portion of it. Additionally, many individuals try to avoid sugary products but as they are comparitively cheaper than other healthy items it became more defficult for many persons to romove it from their diet. Finally, the direct solution to this problem is to make the sweet products expensive so that people can think twice before buying them.

Subsequently, many cannot afford it as a result they tend to eat healthy food and consume less sugary food. Basically, people will eat sweet food occasionally.

On the other hand, people might feel it hard to completely elliminate sugar. Bacause it already became habit for many to consume sugary food and drink on daily basis. For instance, many individuals consume biscuits and cold drinks daily so it bacome a habit for many and it's difficult for them to remove it completely from their diet. As a result, people may still buy sugary goods even if they are expensive.

In conclusion, if government make the sugary products relatively expensive. It will definately create a huge impact purchasing power. As a result many individuals avoid buying sugary foods and drinks. However, there are still some citizens who might still consume it but definately the portion will be in controlled than now. In future, sugary food may become a occasional treat.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that sugary products should cost more, and you explain that higher prices may make people think twice and choose healthier food. You also acknowledge a limitation—that people with established habits may continue buying these products—which addresses both sides of the issue. The explanation about dopamine and craving is relevant, but it is asserted rather than clearly connected to evidence or a specific example. The point that some people cannot afford sugary products is also developed less fully than your main argument. To strengthen the response, explain how a price increase could change purchasing behaviour and support this with a concrete example, while clarifying whether you mean a tax or another pricing policy.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a main argument, a counterpoint and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from sugar cravings to the possible effect of higher prices, and then to the difficulty of changing habits. However, the first body paragraph is crowded with several related points, while the second is brief and repeats the idea that people may continue consuming sugary products. Linking words such as “Furthermore,” “Consequently,” “Subsequently” and “As a result” are used often, sometimes making the connections feel mechanical or unclear. For example, “Subsequently” does not clearly show how the preceding point leads to the next. Group each paragraph around one main claim and use more precise referencing and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “sugar consumption,” “addicted,” “portion,” “diet” and “purchasing power,” so the reader can follow your main ideas. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general terms such as “people,” “sugary products” and “food,” as well as noticeable spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include “coastlier,” “harmon,” “reversable,” “comparitively” and “elliminate.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “crave more for it” and “remove it from their diet.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and sometimes make the argument less fluent. Build a bank of accurate collocations for pricing, consumption and health, and proofread spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including cause-and-effect clauses with “because,” “as” and “even if.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems interrupt the flow. For example, “our brain crave” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “many individuals consume biscuits and cold drinks daily so it bacome a habit” needs clearer clause punctuation and a consistent verb form. The conclusion also begins “if government make” as a sentence fragment, and “the portion will be in controlled” is not grammatically formed. Practise checking agreement, articles and verb forms, and make sure conditional clauses are joined to a complete main clause. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
