Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays most of the food and drink products contains sugar that is hazardous and can cause many health problems such as diabetes and obesity. Suagary products can be root of many health problem as the national survey in our country Pakistan.

I believe that the manufacturers use the sugar in the food and drink products because of the abundance of the sugar in the markets. The root of the problem is the easy availability of the sugar, I believe that there should be rules and regulation on how and which quality of the sugar should be there in the market to trade. The Government should keep an eye on the market.

For the consumers it is unavoidable to buy drinks or food from the market considering the daily needs. So if the sugary products are made expensive it will be just affects the buyers not the manufacturers, that's why in my opinion the sugar itself should be made expensive and there should be strict regulations for its use.

Cold drinks nowaday have high level of sugar and is considered as the most sugary product. One my friend was kind of addictive to cold drink. He felt that his health is being deteriorating. He started avoiding taking cold drinks which was a tough decsion for him. But after a month he said that he had been well and active after quiting the sugary drinks. And the person who was once obese we saw being fit, healthy and active in his daily tasks.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a recognisable position: you argue that making sugary products more expensive would affect consumers rather than manufacturers, and propose raising the price of sugar itself alongside regulation. The example about your friend also supports the health concern. However, the response only partly develops the question of whether sugary products should cost more: the claim that consumers cannot avoid buying food and drink is not explained, and the alternative policy is asserted rather than compared with the proposal in the prompt. The opening reference to a national survey is not followed by any finding or detail. To strengthen the response, state your agreement or disagreement directly and develop two reasons with clear explanations and relevant evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has some organisation: it moves from the health issue to proposed regulation, then to the effect on consumers, and finally gives a personal example. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these points. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear, and several links between ideas are abrupt. For example, the national survey is mentioned but not connected to the argument, while the shift from consumers’ daily needs to making sugar itself more expensive needs a clearer explanation. Linking phrases such as “that’s why” and “so” are used, but they do not always show the precise relationship between claims. Organise the essay around a clear position, with each paragraph developing one reason and a concluding sentence that ties it back to the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “hazardous,” “strict regulations,” “daily needs,” and “deteriorating,” which helps communicate the topic and your example. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or collocation errors make parts less natural, such as “root of the problem,” “kind of addictive to cold drink,” and “quiting the sugary drinks.” Spelling errors such as “Suagary,” “nowaday,” and “decsion” are also noticeable. Repetition of “sugar,” “products,” and “health” limits precision. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for discussing pricing, consumption, and public health, and check spelling and collocations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentence forms, including “So if the sugary products are made expensive it will be just affects the buyers not the manufacturers,” and the account of your friend’s change in habits. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “products contains,” “it will be just affects,” and “Cold drinks … have high level … and is considered,” where the subjects and verbs do not agree. The opening also joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using clauses such as “because” and “although.” Proofread specifically for subject–verb agreement and consistent verb forms.
