Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that alarge number of manufactured food and drink items contain high levels of sugar, which is harmful for human body and it can damage physical body. Sugar item shoud be make more costly to encourage people to avoid sugar items. While this trend may bring benefits, I largely agree with that idea because people cannot afford to consume and government increase tax on sugar item.

One major advantage of this development is that people cannot purchase sugar snacks. This is mainly because when people see the sugar snacks price rise the price then the people cannot buy it especially low income family. In fact, people reduce to eating sugar snacks and get alternative option. For example, a recent survey showed the UK government rise the price of sugar items and people may surprisingly reduce to consume. As a result, this is positive impect for local people and to help them to keep maintain their physical body.

Another significant factor is consider is that public authorities increas e tax on sugar snacks. In other words, when government increase tax on sugar products then local people may less consume sugar item. Moreover, majority of the companies face a large amount of money crisis and they gradually reduce sugar products. A good example can be seen this is the Bangladesh government rise tax on sugar snacks and surprisingly people less consume sugar items. As a result in few month many companies reduce their sugar items.

In conclusion, although some sugar items can help people physically strong, However I believe that too much eating sugar products can have harmful effect on human lives because it can gradually damage houman bodies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated in the introduction: you “largely agree” that sugary products should cost more, and both body paragraphs give reasons related to affordability and taxation. These points are relevant, but the response only partially develops the task. The first paragraph focuses on low-income consumers being unable to buy sugary snacks, while the second shifts to companies facing financial problems and reducing production; the link between higher taxes and this outcome is not clearly explained. The examples about the UK and Bangladesh are asserted rather than supported with specific details. The conclusion also introduces the idea that sugar can make people “physically strong,” which is not developed earlier and weakens the consistency of your argument. Explain the effects and limitations of price increases more fully, and keep the position consistent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each body paragraph begins with a main point, and phrases such as “For example,” “Moreover” and “As a result” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear or repetitive: the first body paragraph repeats the idea that people cannot buy sugary snacks, and the second moves from taxation to companies’ financial difficulties without making the connection explicit. Some linking phrases are used mechanically, and references such as “this development” and “this” do not always identify the idea clearly. The conclusion’s contrast beginning “although” is also difficult to follow. Organise each paragraph around one claim, explain it step by step, and use linking expressions only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “manufactured food and drink,” “high levels of sugar,” “tax” and “low income family,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, vocabulary is limited and repeated, particularly “sugar items,” “sugar snacks” and “people,” which makes the argument less precise. Several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “physical body,” “alternative option,” “positive impect” and “keep maintain their physical body.” Spelling errors, including “shoud,” “increas e,” “houman” and “impect,” also reduce clarity and control. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for health effects, consumer behaviour and pricing, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish between consumers reducing purchases and companies changing their products.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “when people see the sugar snacks price rise,” and you use clauses beginning with “because” and “although.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in verb forms and agreement occur in phrases such as “should be make more costly,” “government increase tax” and “people may less consume.” Articles, plurals and sentence construction are also inconsistent, as in “for human body” and “majority of the companies face a large amount of money crisis.” Punctuation and capitalisation need attention too, especially the comma and capital “However” in the conclusion. These frequent errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb patterns, then proofread each sentence for complete, correctly punctuated clauses.
