Student answer (Band 5.5)
In my opinion, the sugary products should be made more expensive to avoid people from using them. It will be a positive contribution towards society as sugary products are injurous to health and causes many severe health problems. Hopefully,it will prevent people from consuming a lot of such products.
Sugar is one of the main constituent of food. A specific amount of sugar is required for the body to work properly and carry out life processes. It also provides you a sudden perk of energy. This requirement is still fulfilled by the balanced diet. Many people cannot resist the manufactured food and beverages because of their taste. These food and drinks contain high levels of sugar which are risky for human health as they can cause a number of health problems. These health problems are not only confined to obesity but also includes severe threats like diabetes and high blood pressure.
Many people are well aware of all the troubles that frozen food and drinks offer but still they cannot resist the immediate dopamine hit it provides. Nowadays, people have lost their self control and it is the main reason that they cannot refure sugary products despite knowing all of the associated health problems. There was a friend of mine who became a diabetic patient at a very young age becuase he was consuming sugary beverages with every meal. We tried to make him understand the health problems it offers but he was so addicted that he was not ready to listen anyone of us and now he is suffering.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that sugary products should cost more, and you explain that they can contribute to obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure. The example of your friend also supports your concern about excessive consumption. However, the response only partially develops the central proposal. It does not explain how higher prices would reduce consumption, who might be most affected, or whether the measure should be combined with other approaches. The discussion of sugar’s role in the body is relevant background, but it takes space without directly advancing the argument. To strengthen the response, explain the likely effect of price increases and develop the example or add another relevant reason.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening position, a paragraph about sugar and health, and a final paragraph with a personal example. However, progression is limited because the main argument about making products more expensive is not carried through after the introduction. Connections between ideas are sometimes unclear or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to health problems and people being unable to resist sugary products. Some linking words, such as “but” and “despite,” help show contrast, but the relationships between sentences are not always well managed. Use each paragraph to develop one clear point, and add transitions that explain how the evidence supports your position on pricing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “balanced diet,” “high blood pressure,” “self control,” and “addicted,” which helps communicate the health argument. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “immediate dopamine hit,” though this is somewhat informal for an academic essay. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “avoid people from using them,” “provides you a sudden perk of energy,” and “the troubles that frozen food and drinks offer.” Spelling errors such as “injurous,” “refure,” and “becuase” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check spelling carefully; this would make your ideas clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, for example, “Many people cannot resist the manufactured food and beverages because of their taste,” and the sentence beginning “There was a friend of mine who became…” However, errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “Sugar is one of the main constituent” and “These health problems… also includes,” where the subject and verb do not agree. The opening also needs a clearer article and punctuation: “In my opinion, the sugary products…” Several sentences join ideas in ways that are difficult to control. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, while building accurate complex sentences with clauses such as “although” and “because.”
