Student answer (Band 6.0)

Store bought or processed food are packed with sugar causing serious health issues. Some people think that increasing the prices of sugary items is an effective way of restricting people from buying them. I, however largely diagree with this notion as it lacks reliability and may arise discrimination sentiment.

Making juices and other sugar containing food products expensive is not a reliable solution because it does not ensures that people are not buying them. Sugar is a kind of addiction and individuals who are fond of it will keep purchasing such products despite their high cost.

High prices of certain sugar rich itmes may also leads to social discrimination among society. It will create a boundary that only people belonging to upper class can enjoy eating cakes, juices, and ither items while individuals of lower or middle class family are unable to purchase them. For instance, a child may feel himself disadvantaged if he can not access something that his fellow can. This will prevail negativity in the society.

From my perspective, increasing the cost is not a workable solution to motivate people to limit sugar use in their lives.Mainly because it does not guarantees that public will not going to buy sugary products and it is also likely to develop unjust feeling among people.

In conclusion, though it is important to encourage society to consume less sugar as it is associated with different health problems, in my opinion rising their cost is nit the best possible way. However, the best option will be to educate people about the detrimental effects of high sugar levels on their health through awarness on social media, seminars and commercials.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree that higher prices are the best way to reduce sugar consumption, and you give two relevant reasons—people may continue buying sugary products, and price increases could disadvantage lower-income families. The example of a child feeling excluded helps illustrate the second point. You also offer education through social media, seminars and commercials as an alternative. However, the addiction claim is asserted rather than explained, and the social-discrimination argument would be stronger with a clearer link between higher prices and unequal access. The conclusion repeats your main points but does not develop the alternative in detail. To strengthen the response, explain how education could change behaviour and support each main reason with a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, a restatement of your position and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main reason, and signposting such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the argument. However, the progression is somewhat repetitive: the final body paragraph restates the points already made rather than adding a new step to the discussion. Some connections are also abrupt, particularly the move from the claim about addiction to the conclusion that people will keep purchasing these products. Improve cohesion by developing each paragraph’s reasoning in sequence and using references that clearly connect claims to their explanations, rather than repeating the same position in several places.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “sugar-rich,” “social discrimination,” “detrimental effects” and “unjust feeling.” These choices show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic vocabulary, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, such as “arise discrimination sentiment,” “sugar containing food products” and “prevail negativity in the society.” There are also spelling errors, including “diagree,” “itmes,” “ither,” “nit” and “awarness.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for natural combinations such as “create a sense of discrimination” and “increase social inequality,” and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in “though it is important to encourage society…” and a conditional example beginning “if he can not access…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “food are packed” has a subject–verb agreement problem, “it does not ensures” uses the wrong verb form after “does,” and “may also leads” has an incorrect verb form. The sentence fragment “Mainly because it does not guarantees…” is not grammatically complete, and “the public will not going to buy” has a faulty verb construction. Work on agreement, verb forms after auxiliaries, and complete sentence structure; these corrections would make your argument more accurate while preserving your range of sentence types.
