Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

From my perspective. I agree with this. because sugar containing food products are very harmful for our health. it will couse many diseases. They also increase sugar level and couse diabetes. By increasing price of sugary products will be able to reduce consumption of sugar. this is the useful thing to do for reducing consumption of sugar. Apart from that we take some more steps to avoid people from consumption of sugar by telling them their bad effects on human health . Even through some people will not agree with this . Because they have addicted to consume sugar that's why it is more important to us to know that how to stop people with the help of right idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear position—“I agree”—and give relevant reasons, including health risks, diabetes, and the possibility that higher prices could reduce consumption. However, the response addresses the task only partially: these points are asserted rather than explained or supported with a specific example, and the suggestion to provide health information is not developed. The final sentence about people being “addicted” is difficult to follow and does not clarify how your argument would work. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so there is not enough development to fully answer the question. To strengthen your response, explain how price changes might affect buying habits and add a relevant example or evidence for your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: you begin with your opinion, give reasons, and then introduce an additional measure with “Apart from that.” This helps the reader identify the main direction of your response. However, the ideas do not progress clearly into developed paragraphs, and several links are repetitive or awkward. For example, “By increasing price… reduce consumption” is followed by “this is the useful thing to do for reducing consumption,” which repeats the same point rather than advancing it. The use of “Even through” to introduce a contrast is also unclear, and the final sentence combines several ideas without a clear relationship. Organise the response into paragraphs and use linking phrases only when they show a precise connection between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the central topic, with relevant terms such as “sugary products,” “diseases,” “diabetes,” and “consumption.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “consumption of sugar.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “sugar containing food products,” “increase sugar level,” and “stop people with the help of right idea.” Spelling errors in “couse” and “Even through” also reduce accuracy. These issues sometimes make the intended meaning less clear, especially in the final sentence. Build a wider set of topic-specific expressions and check common word combinations; for example, refer to “blood sugar levels” and “reduce sugar intake.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use mostly simple sentence patterns and attempt a few more complex links, such as “Because they have addicted to consume sugar,” but the range remains limited and these attempts are often faulty. Errors include sentence fragments and punctuation in “From my perspective. I agree with this. because…,” missing or incorrect verb forms in “they have addicted,” and awkward clause construction in “know that how to stop people.” Articles and prepositions are also not consistently controlled, as in “By increasing price.” These errors can make parts of the response difficult to follow, although the main position and basic reasons remain understandable. Practise forming complete sentences, especially when joining reasons and contrasts, and check verb patterns such as “be addicted to” and indirect questions such as “how to…”
