Student answer (Band 5.5)

I totally disagree to this way of stopping people of consuming manufactued foods. I think, people should be taught in a serious and more continous manner so that they understand the serious effects of consuming manufactured foods.but, you can't make them expensive as in many areas you can't find proper or hygienec food,Like going in less development areas than you have to consume these products as they are better than local unhygeniec food. For example i just visited northern areas of pakistan and there food weren't upto the standard so mostly people cosnumed junk food which is atleast hygeniec. So, that's the only logical where i well encourage people to use these stuffs.otherwise, kids should be discouraged for these stuffs, as they can get addicted to jusk food and at early age they should be taught to not eat or drink. My nephews don't drink cold Drinks or eat these packet chips unless its the only option. we have made a strict line for them to not to eat unhealthy foods. they eat choclates or candies but in a very limited manner, instead we have encouraged them to eat fruits or home made sweets or food because they more hygeniec and cleaner.Proper steps should be taken by people to teach others the effects of junk food to decrease the consumption of sugar items.Instead encourage them to eat fruits which are natural sweet.Making them expensive is not the solution, it will only have a slight effect on people but its better that people should learn the harmfull effect of junk food and stop taking them thereselves.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with making sugary products more expensive, and you offer relevant reasons, including the lack of hygienic alternatives in some areas and the value of educating children. The example of your visit to northern Pakistan helps illustrate why people may rely on packaged food. However, the response focuses broadly on manufactured or junk food rather than consistently addressing products with high sugar, and the education argument is asserted more than explained. The family example is relevant but could be linked more explicitly to reducing sugar consumption. To strengthen the response, explain how price increases would affect people with few alternatives, and develop the likely benefits and limitations of education in comparison with taxation. Some ideas are therefore more fully supported than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable line of argument: you oppose higher prices, give an example of limited food choices, and recommend education and parental guidance instead. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “otherwise,” and “Instead” help show relationships between points. However, the writing is presented as one long paragraph, so the shift from food access to children and then to general education is difficult to follow. Several ideas are repeated, particularly that people should be taught about harm and encouraged to avoid junk food. Some connections are also unclear, as in “that's the only logical where i well encourage people to use these stuffs.” Use separate paragraphs for your main reasons and conclusion, and make each paragraph develop one point in a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “consume,” “addicted,” “limited manner,” and “natural sweet,” and the reader can generally understand your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or repeated, such as “these stuffs,” “junk food,” and “unhealthy foods.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “manufactued,” “hygeniec,” “cosnumed,” and “harmfull,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the writing. Some collocations are unnatural, for example “serious effects of consuming manufactured foods” and “strict line.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully; distinguish specifically between sugary products, processed foods, and food that is unsafe or unhygienic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences to explain reasons and examples, using structures such as “so that they understand” and “as they can get addicted.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often difficult to control. For example, “I totally disagree to this way of stopping people of consuming…” has an incorrect preposition pattern, while “in many areas you can't find proper or hygienec food, Like going in less development areas than you have to consume…” is not a complete, clearly structured sentence. There are also errors with articles, agreement, and punctuation, such as “there food weren't” and the frequent missing spaces after full stops. Practise building clear sentences with one main clause and a correctly attached supporting clause, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
