Student answer (Band 6.0)

A large number of manufactured products such as food and drinks contains a large sugar content, which causes numerous health issues. So, sugar made products should be made more costly to disencourage people to comsume more sugar. I stronglty agree with that solution but I also think that would be not enough to change people's mind. So, some other arrangements should be made to make people aware of the danger of sugar made products.

Excessive sugar in anything has more drawbacks then people think. These products can cause serious health issues such as obesity, tooth decay and diabetes. These health concerns can have major negative impacts on a person life. So, I think making sugary products more expensive will be a positive devolopement to help reducing the demages caused by excessive sugar. Although it will not stop everyone from buy sugar-rich products but it will lessen the sale of those products. Conversely it will have effect on poor or middle-class only and not on wealthy segment of society. People who have a lot of money don't think twice before buying anything no matter how expensive that is. So, making high-sugar foods expensive will not automatically reduce the consumption of those products.

However, some additional steps like public awareness about the drawbacks of sugar-rich products will also be helpful. People should be made aware of the demages caused by those product through social media compaigns because everyone use social media these days. Another important step would be government should make sure the manufacturer's of high-sugar products will also mention each ingeridient on packing clearly and also their ratios that this product contain this much sugar, fats, carbohydrates, preservatives etc. For instance, I also started drinking too much soft-drinks and as a result of this I gained more than 15kg weight in just 6 months. So, I think with all those steps that I mentioned before another important step would be the promotion of sugar free foods and drinks.

To coclude, I would like to say that efforts should be made not just on national level but also on individual level. Government should also take notice of this problem and should ban products which are extremely bad for people's health. This will help people to improve their health as it is said that; Health is wealth. So, people will live a better life with better health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear: you agree that sugary products should cost more, while arguing that price increases alone will not change everyone’s behaviour. You address the prompt with relevant reasons, including health effects, the different impact on people with varying incomes, public-awareness campaigns, clearer labelling and healthier alternatives. The personal example about gaining weight after drinking soft drinks helps make the health argument concrete. To strengthen the response further, develop the link between higher prices and reduced consumption with a specific explanation or example, and explain more fully how the proposed measures would work together. The final suggestion to ban products that are “extremely bad” is broad and would benefit from clearer criteria or justification.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting the limitations of price increases and additional measures, and a conclusion. The progression from health effects to practical responses is generally easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “However” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. This shows a coherent arrangement, though cohesion is not always smooth. “So” is repeated several times, and “Conversely” does not clearly express the relationship intended between reduced sales and the effect on poorer consumers. Some references, such as “those products” and “all those steps,” could be more precise. To move towards more flexible cohesion, vary transitions and make the connection between each claim and its supporting explanation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “obesity,” “tooth decay,” “public awareness,” “preservatives” and “consumption,” so the reader can understand the main points. However, the range and control are limited by repeated general wording such as “products,” “steps” and “health issues,” as well as noticeable spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include “disencourage,” “comsume,” “devolopement,” “demages” and “ingeridient.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “sugar made products” and “the sale of those products.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and can distract the reader. Build a bank of accurate collocations for food policy and health, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “Although,” “because” and “as a result,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, grammatical errors occur across the response, particularly in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “products … contains” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “a person life” needs a possessive form. The construction “another important step would be government should make sure” is not grammatically complete as written, and “everyone use social media” also has an agreement error. Some long sentences combine several ideas without clear grammatical control. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and use a full clause after phrases such as “would be” and “make sure.”
