Student answer (Band 6.0)
Sugar is the new poison of this generation. Many processed foods and drinks contain a high amount of sugar. High sugar levels are directly associated with many human health diseases, such as high or low sugar/ Diabetes, high BP, high cholesterol, and certain cardiovascular hazards. Sugary products are attractive and cheap, which makes them conveniently accessible to people. To control sugar, products can be made more expensive to decrease the purchasing power of such products among the public.
I agree with the idea of increasing the prices of sugary products. It makes the availability less reliable. It discourages middle-class people from buying such processed food and drinks. It helps poor sections of society avoid some common health disorders. It saves their money spent on hospital bills. It makes the overall nation fit and healthy. However, sweets serve as a great source of happiness during festivals and ceremonies. Such traditionally cooked sweets and desserts must not be discouraged during occasions. However, artificially manufactured sugary products such as food and drinks should be made expensive. This will lead to traditional methods of making homemade healthy juices out of fruits with natural sugars essential for survival. I disagree with the concept of banning or overcharging products such as honey, jaggery, and other natural sugars that are beneficial for human health. However, rich people will continue to buy such expensive products and deteriorate their health. It never stops them from buying sugar. Therefore, I suggest more productive alternatives, such as mass awareness programmes on the negative impact of sugar on human health, to discourage both rich and poor from consuming sugar products, especially artificially synthesised food and drinks.
I conclude the topic by the statement that artificial sugars should be banned. They should not be manufactured in the first place. There must be strict regulations to check the nutritional standards of the products. There must be strict guidelines issued by the governing body to regulate, monitor, and conduct sudden raids on manufacturing units.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support making manufactured sugary products more expensive, while distinguishing them from traditional sweets and natural sugars. You also offer relevant reasons, including health risks and the possibility that higher prices could reduce purchases, and you propose awareness campaigns and regulation. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that higher prices help poorer people avoid health disorders needs a clearer link to how price changes affect consumption, and the point that wealthy consumers will continue buying sugary products is not developed with an example or evidence. Your conclusion shifts from price increases to banning products, which does not fully match the position developed in the essay. Keep the focus on the question and explain the likely effects of pricing more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a main discussion, and a concluding paragraph. Ideas are generally relevant and the reader can follow your broad position. However, the main body contains many short statements in sequence—“It discourages…”, “It helps…”, “It saves…”—so the reasoning can feel list-like rather than progressively developed. The repeated use of “However” also creates some awkward transitions, particularly where you move from festival sweets to natural sugars and then to wealthy consumers. The conclusion introduces banning and raids, which are not clearly connected to the earlier argument for higher prices. Group related points into clearer paragraphs and use linking phrases to show cause, contrast, and consequence more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cardiovascular hazards,” “nutritional standards,” and “mass awareness programmes,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, though some expressions are imprecise or unnatural: “high or low sugar/ Diabetes” is unclear, “availability less reliable” does not accurately describe the effect of a price rise, and “deteriorate their health” is an awkward collocation. “Artificial sugars” may also be confused with artificial sweeteners, whereas your argument concerns manufactured products with added sugar. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision. Aim for natural collocations and distinguish clearly between added sugar, naturally occurring sugars, and sweeteners.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex forms, and most sentences communicate their meaning. For example, the sentence beginning “However, sweets serve as a great source…” introduces a contrast, while the final paragraph uses modal structures such as “There must be strict regulations.” Some grammatical issues remain. The opening list, “high or low sugar/ Diabetes, high BP,” is not formed clearly as a parallel sentence element, and “It makes the availability less reliable” has an unclear reference for “It.” Several consecutive sentences begin with “It,” producing repetitive structures and making the links between ideas less clear. Review sentence construction in lists and ensure pronouns have clear antecedents. Combining related short sentences into controlled complex sentences would also demonstrate a broader range more effectively.
