Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that making sugary products more expensive will motivate people to consume food and drink with less sugar because many health problems are caused by the consuming of high levels of sugar in drinks and foods. In my opinion, it is not a good approach.
More specifically, consuming food and drinks with high levels of sugar is people's own choice. Therefore, increasing the product prices will only motivate the manufacturing companies to stop doing business in the country. Government can put the restriction, but it will not solve the health problem because people will continue to buy these types of food and drinks regardless of the price. A popular example is, the petrol prices are at its highest, but instead of strike or fight people buy it with no complaint. Sugary products are actually one of the main factor of celebration, festivals, entertainment, and weddings. During celebration, people buy thing without looking at the price. During entertainment, drinking and eating are major parts of enjoyment. Moreover, at wedding, people share happiness and welcome the new family member with drinks, dinners, and parties. Similarly, on festivals, through drinking and eating people share or interact with each other in a sense of hospitality.
In addition to the above, all the aforementioned factors are the reason why people will not be going to stop buying sugary items. However, instead of increasing the prices, government can run awareness programs about the drawbacks these items have on their health. Likewise, government can also settle with the manufacturing companies about the specific fixed amount of sugar to be used in these items.
In conclusion, as I stated, making these types of snacks more expensive is not an option. It will only discourage manufacturers. People will still buy sugary snacks. In contrast, government can run program about the damages of these snacks and drinks have on our health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that higher prices are an effective solution. You address the proposal and offer alternatives, including public-awareness programmes and setting limits on sugar content, so the response is relevant to the task. The examples about celebrations, weddings and festivals help explain why people may continue buying these products, but this point is repeated and not fully demonstrated. The petrol comparison is also not clearly connected to sugary food, and the claim that higher prices would make manufacturers leave the country needs explanation or evidence. Develop fewer reasons more fully, and explain how your proposed alternatives would reduce consumption and health problems.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a main paragraph explaining your disagreement, a paragraph proposing alternatives, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Therefore,” “Moreover,” and “In addition” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the central paragraph moves through celebrations, entertainment, weddings and festivals in a repetitive sequence, so the progression is not always efficient. The reference to petrol prices also interrupts the argument because its relevance is not made explicit. In the conclusion, “as I stated” and the repeated claim that people will still buy sugary products add little. Group related examples, make each paragraph’s main point clearer, and use referencing and transitions more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “manufacturing companies,” “awareness programs,” “drawbacks,” and “specific fixed amount.” These choices communicate your main ideas, and the topic vocabulary is generally appropriate. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the consuming of high levels,” “put the restriction,” and “settle with the manufacturing companies.” There is also repetition of “food and drinks,” “buy,” and “people,” which limits flexibility. Some word forms and collocations need attention, for example “main factor” when referring to several factors and “buy thing.” Aim for more precise, natural combinations and vary repeated terms while keeping the meaning clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “people will continue to buy … regardless of the price” and a subordinate clause beginning “because.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “the petrol prices are at its highest” has a number-agreement problem, while “people will not be going to stop buying” uses an unnecessarily awkward verb construction. In the final sentence, “the damages … have on our health” lacks a clear grammatical link between the noun phrase and the clause. Review agreement, articles, and verb patterns, and check that longer sentences have a complete, clearly connected structure.
