Student answer (Band 5.0)

A lot of artificial food and drinks have a great level of sugars, which causes a numerous drawbacks related to health. It is believed by some people that the products which contain higher amount of sugar it must make more costly to confence people to avoid unhealthy food or drinks. I largely agree with this statement.

To commence with, there are number of reasons of why making sugary product more expensive is beneficial. First of all, people start avoiding junk food when its prices are higer. To explain it, if individual going to market if they pay attention to junk food for eat but its expensive therfore they forget it and move to their direction. Secondly, to make people more healhier and prevent from health issues government should take action to make healthy products more affordable such as milk and vegetables by the use of money which comes after make junk food more expensive.

Furthermore, some of the food which are not able to eat it should be banned because after making food expensive it enourage to only middleclass. However, wealthier people still are able to purchase highly sugrar food.

On the other hand, it should not make quite expensive, because some people use to eat junk food on special days and rarely while enjoy event or movie.

In conclusion, if junk food should be expensive then people start to avoid highly sugar food and government need to make healthy food more affordable. In addition, some sugary products must be banned.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction (“I largely agree”), and you give relevant reasons: higher prices may discourage purchases, while the revenue could support more affordable healthy foods. You also acknowledge a limitation—that wealthier consumers may still buy sugary products—and briefly note occasional consumption. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The example about someone forgetting junk food at the market is difficult to follow and does not explain how often price changes would alter behaviour. The point about banning some foods is introduced without explaining which products or why a price increase would not be enough. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation or a specific example, and make your position on banning products consistent with your main argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “On the other hand” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression between ideas is not always clear: the paragraph beginning “Furthermore” shifts from pricing to banning products without a developed link, and the counterpoint about occasional consumption is not fully connected to your overall position. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, and references such as “it” in “it should not make quite expensive” are unclear. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, explain the connection between sentences, and use more precise referencing and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “health issues,” “affordable,” “middleclass,” and “sugary products,” so the reader can identify the topic and your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. For example, “a great level of sugars” and “a numerous drawbacks” are not natural expressions, while “move to their direction” does not clearly convey what consumers do instead. Spelling errors such as “higer,” “healhier,” and “sugrar” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of phrases for discussing prices, consumption and health, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea (“if they pay attention to junk food…”) and a contrast introduced by “However.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “the products which contain higher amount of sugar it must make more costly” and “if individual going to market,” where sentence structure, articles and verb forms are not controlled. Agreement and plural forms also cause problems, as in “there are number of reasons” and “people start to avoid.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning hard to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check articles, agreement and verb forms before adding extra clauses.
