Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, many health problems are caused due to the manufacturing of high level sugary products, such as food and drink products. People argue that sugar consumption can be decreased by making the sugary products more expensive. I disagree with this statement.

One of the primary reasons why I disagree with making sugary product expensive is that it can pose pressure on low-income households. Sugary food and drinks products have become a part of our daily life. People purchase it on every ocassions, such as parties and birthdays. By making it expensive, the low-income families may not be able to afford them. Furthermore, people tend to be fond of sugary products and purchase them in large amounts during ocassions, such as Eid and Christams, thereby contributing largly to nations' budget.

One another reason I disagree is that it may lead to instability inside the country. Many sugary products are used as ingredients to prepare other meals. As a result, people may tend to struggle with purchasing the basic products, stressing individuals, which could result in protests against the governments. However, the best approach to minimise the consumption is to spread awaireness. For instance, governments should ensure to teach the citizens about the disadvantages of using high levels sugar contents, by means of televisions, advertisements and even in schools.

In conclusion, I completely disagree with the statement of rasing the price of food and drink products that contain high sugar. Although this can reduce the consumption, it has more critical consequences, including unaffordability, and unstable situations inside the state. Thus, people can be encouraged with the proper teachings of negatives of the high levels sugary products.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree with making sugary products more expensive. You give two relevant reasons—financial pressure on low-income households and possible social instability—and offer public education as an alternative. This addresses the question, but some points are not fully explained. For example, the claim that higher prices could lead to protests needs a clearer chain of reasoning, and the reference to sugary products contributing to the national budget is not connected convincingly to your argument. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example, and acknowledge more directly how price increases might reduce consumption before explaining why you consider that approach unsuitable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from your position to reasons and then an alternative is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “Furthermore,” “As a result” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. This already shows sound organisation, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, the point about products contributing to the national budget does not clearly follow from the affordability argument. The second paragraph also moves quickly from ingredients in meals to protests. Make these links explicit, and use pronouns carefully—for example, clarify what “it” refers to in “People purchase it”—to make cohesion more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “low-income households,” “consumption,” “ingredients,” “instability” and “affordability.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several word-choice and collocation problems make the expression less natural, such as “pose pressure,” “one another reason,” “high levels sugar contents” and “teach the citizens about the disadvantages.” Spelling errors, including “ocassions,” “Christams,” “largly,” “awaireness” and “rasing,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For instance, you could write “place a financial burden on low-income households” and “raise awareness of the health risks.” This would make your vocabulary more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although,” “which” and “thereby,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur. In “many health problems are caused due to the manufacturing,” the passive construction is awkward; “many health problems are caused by the production” is more grammatical. There are also agreement and article problems in “People purchase it” and “making sugary product expensive,” as well as an incomplete phrase in “high levels sugar contents.” Review singular and plural forms, articles and sentence patterns, and proofread punctuation. More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control without sacrificing the variety you already attempt.
