Student answer (Band 6.0)

The high sugar level items which includes fast food, instant noodles etc and soft drinks contain high amount of sugar which causes multiple health problem like diabetes. I disagree with increasing sugar item prices because if prices increase, it will get out of range for lower class society and people from upper or elite classs will still buy these items and it increases the diabetes rate in upper class society.

One of the major problem with high level sugar items is diabetes, as it is increasing amoung people from the last few years because the ratio of people who consume fast food, soft drinks and product with high sugar level are getting increase. For example in my country there are only 4% diabetic patients in 2002 which increased to 24% according to 2025 report, almost 20% increase in 23 years.

Moreover, if sugar product prices increase it may encourage society to consume lower amount of sugar but people who can afford to buy expensive products will still buy high sugar level products. So I disagree with increasing the sugar product prices instead government should apply strict rules for the companies to lower the sugar level in products for example if sugar ratio is 20g per 500ml of soft drinks, government should apply rules for companies to lower the sugar level in products like for next 6 months 15g per 500ml soft drink and then 10g per 500ml for next 6 months. It may affect the sale of products but also encourage people to consume less sugar.

In conclusion, I disagree with increasing prices of manufactured food and drink products that have high sugar level instead I am in the favour of strict rules by government should be apply to all companies that manufacture food and drink for lower the sugar level in their products time by time. It also descrease the health problems in future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with making sugary products more expensive, and you offer an alternative of government rules to reduce sugar content. The discussion is relevant and includes a specific example of gradually lowering the sugar in soft drinks. You also explain that higher prices may not deter wealthier consumers. However, this point is asserted rather than supported, and the claim that price rises would put products beyond the reach of lower-income people needs clearer explanation of why this is a reason to reject the policy. The diabetes statistics add detail, but they do not establish that sugary products caused the increase. Develop these links and address the proposed price measure more directly to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons and an alternative, and the conclusion restates your position. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some progression is repetitive: the idea that people who can afford expensive products will continue buying them appears in both the introduction and the third paragraph. The first body paragraph gives statistics but does not clearly connect them to the argument about pricing. Some references, such as “it” in “it may encourage society,” are not fully precise. Organise each paragraph around one distinct claim, then explain how its evidence supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “diabetes,” “manufactured food and drink products,” “consume,” and “strict rules,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “sugar ratio” and “diabetic patients,” though these are not always natural or precise in context. Repeated expressions such as “high sugar level” and “products” limit the range, while spelling errors including “amoung,” “classs,” and “descrease” reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, use “high-sugar products,” “sugar content,” or “sugary drinks.” Check spelling and word forms carefully, especially in key topic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if prices increase” and a longer sentence explaining the proposed reduction in sugar content. The overall meaning is generally clear, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “items which includes” should use a plural verb, while “multiple health problem” needs a plural noun. The opening sentence is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined without clear grammatical boundaries. In the conclusion, “rules … should be apply” has an incorrect verb form. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly attached supporting clause, and check subject–verb agreement and verb forms during revision.
