Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, many food and drink products contain too much sugar, which can cause serious health problems. Some people believe that these products should become more expensive to reduce sugar consumption. I agree with this opinion.

Although some might think that it is not good for health but cutting out sugar totally will also have some health issues. Sugar is not bad if used in a certain amount. over consumption will led to health problems, but making it expensive will not be the solution.People who are well settled and earning well are going to but it anyway. Sugar is dangerous because it even make your blood pressure high sometimes.

Somehow it will be not be beneficial for the buyers because from increasing the price of sugar or sugary products people will be bounded to buy fruits and healthy products and it will be a good thing because this will develop the habit of healthy eating. From my perspective if the buyers will sell sugar at very expensive price for one month, it will automatically reduce the consumptions and people will start eating healthy. It took only 15 days to develop a habit and if the consumers will eat healthy food for 15 days straight they will stop eating or even craving for sweets anymore.

In conclusion, i believe that sugary products should be more expensive to encourage and bound the people to buy and eat healthy food because this will help them reduce the cause of serious health problems like diabeties, heart problems and over weight issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you agree that sugary products should cost more. You also give relevant reasons, including that higher prices might encourage healthier eating and reduce health risks. However, the response only partly develops the task. The argument that people will form a healthy-eating habit after 15 days is asserted rather than supported, and the point that wealthier consumers will buy sugary products anyway is not followed by an explanation of how this affects your overall view. The discussion also shifts between making sugar expensive and making sugary products expensive. To strengthen the response, explain the likely effects and limitations of the proposed price increase, and support each main point with a clear example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position is easy to identify. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven: the second paragraph moves from the health effects of sugar to the affordability of products without clearly connecting these ideas to the proposal. Linking phrases such as “Somehow” and “From my perspective” do not always show the relationship between claims, while repeated references to “people” and “sugar” make the flow feel repetitive. The conclusion restates the position but introduces several health problems without developing them earlier. Organise each body paragraph around one reason, then use clear cause-and-effect links and references to connect supporting details.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “sugar consumption,” “healthy eating,” “blood pressure” and “serious health problems.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “develop the habit of healthy eating.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision: “well settled,” “bounded to buy,” and “reduce the consumptions” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “diabeties” also detract from accuracy. Aim to learn common collocations for discussing prices, consumer behaviour and health, and check word forms and spelling. More precise vocabulary would make your argument clearer without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession beginning “Although” and conditional structures such as “if the consumers will eat healthy food.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some points harder to follow. For example, “Although some might think that it is not good for health but…” incorrectly combines two contrasting structures, while “over consumption will led” has an incorrect verb form. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems in “it even make your blood pressure high” and “the solution.People.” Practise building accurate clauses with one clear conjunction, and check subject–verb agreement, verb forms, capitalisation and punctuation when editing.
