Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You express a relevant view that sugary products are harmful and should be avoided, and you support this with a personal example about your uncle and a mention of tooth decay. However, the response only minimally addresses the actual proposal: it does not clearly explain whether making sugary products more expensive would reduce consumption, nor does it consider how or why this measure might work. The ideas are also very briefly stated, so the reader cannot see a developed argument. The response is 106 words, below the required 250 words. To improve, state your agreement or disagreement directly, explain the likely effects of higher prices, and develop at least two reasons with specific supporting examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the health concern, gives a family example, and then offers advice to avoid sugary products. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, the ideas do not progress into a clear argument about the proposed price increase, and the short paragraphs do not develop distinct points. Linking expressions such as “likewise” and “Regardless of” are attempted, but their relationships to the surrounding ideas are not always clear. For stronger progression, organise the response into an introduction with a direct position, body paragraphs explaining separate reasons, and a conclusion. Use linking phrases only where they accurately show contrast, cause, or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a small set of relevant terms, including “manufactured food and drink products,” “health problems,” “sugary products,” and “cavities.” These make the general topic understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some word choices or spellings make the message harder to follow, such as “sugar disease,” “diabities,” and “sugar cause by these products.” The repeated use of “sugar” also limits precision. Build a more accurate range for discussing the policy and its effects, such as “sugar-sweetened products,” “diabetes,” “consumption,” and “price increase.” Check spelling and choose established health terms rather than informal descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and a longer sentence beginning “Regardless of,” but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “They contain high level of sugar which cause” has problems with plural agreement and the noun phrase, while “One of my uncle face” needs a plural form after “one of” and a correctly inflected verb. The sentence about your uncle also shifts awkwardly between “suffer” and “leave,” making the timeline difficult to follow. Some sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unclear. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add controlled complex sentences using “because,” “which,” and “although.”
