Student answer (Band 5.5)
Products like soft drinks and sweets contains high level of sugar, which causes many health problems. Therefore, just like tobacco or alcohol products, product like these should also be made more expensive to encourage people to consume sugar less.
On one hand, many countries, states and cities are popular for their specific type of food. For example, Bengaluru in India is famous for its sweets. But over consumption of these sweets may become a cause for many heath related issues. Manufacturers are also not responsible for this, as it is their daily work and the way to earn money which is completely legal. But human body could not handle too much sucrose consumption as it could cause blood related problems or diabeties which could go on a serious stage later.
Therefore, govrnment should make a rule of adding a specific amount of sugar to the food as it reduce health related problems. Just like, how alcohol is treated as threat when over consumed and has also a rule of it could only be added to products with a specific amount. Sugar should also be placed in this type of category and the prices of the sugar should also be increased so less people could consume it. Proper knowledge should be given for the side effects of over consumption of sugar which could lead to encourage people to consume sugar kless.
In conclusion, my opinion is to make a rule for sugar, that it should only be added with a specific amount and the prices of sugar should be increase too. This could lend people not to consume more sugary products according to their poverty situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear overall view that sugary products should be regulated and made more expensive, and you support this with relevant concerns about health, including blood-related problems and diabetes. The Bengaluru sweets example also helps connect the issue to a real context. However, the response only partly develops the central proposal: it moves between limiting sugar content, raising prices, and educating consumers without explaining how these measures would work or why higher prices would reduce consumption. The comparison with alcohol is introduced but not fully explained, and the final reference to people’s poverty is unclear. Develop each main reason with a specific explanation or example, and keep the argument focused on whether price increases are effective. The response meets the task’s length requirement; nine words copied from the prompt were excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven. The first body paragraph shifts from Bengaluru’s reputation for sweets to manufacturers’ responsibility and then to health effects, without clearly connecting these points. In the next paragraph, regulation, alcohol, prices, and public education are combined, making the main line of reasoning difficult to follow. Some transitions, especially “On one hand,” do not lead to a contrasting point. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it; use linking phrases only where the relationship between ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “manufacturers,” “over consumption,” “health related issues,” “side effects,” and “specific amount,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main concerns. There are also attempts to express more formal ideas, such as describing sugar as a category requiring regulation. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings reduce precision: “heath,” “diabeties,” “govrnment,” and “kless” are distracting, while “blood related problems” is vague. Phrases such as “consume sugar less” and “lend people not to consume” are not natural collocations. Build a more precise set of expressions for health effects, regulation, and consumer behaviour, and check spelling and word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “which” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns and in the more ambitious constructions. For example, “Products … contains” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “human body could not handle” and “the prices … should be increase” show problems with verb forms and articles. The sentence beginning “Proper knowledge should be given” becomes difficult to follow because its final clause does not connect grammatically to the main idea. Some sentences also join several points without clear punctuation or structure. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and verb patterns first, then use complex clauses in shorter, carefully checked sentences.
