Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear disagreement and explain that raising prices is not a long-term solution, then suggest health awareness and alternatives such as fruit. These points are relevant, but the response only partly develops the central question of whether higher prices would reduce consumption. For example, you do not explain why price increases might fail, who would be most affected, or what other measures could work better. The suggestions about dates and sugar-free desserts are also asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation. To strengthen the response, develop two main reasons directly linked to the proposed price policy and support each with a concrete example, while keeping your position clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally group related points, and phrases such as “That is why” and “In conclusion” help signal connections. However, progression is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas are added without clear links to the argument about prices. The second body paragraph moves from sweet cravings to alternatives, but does not explain how this supports your disagreement with making sugary products more expensive. Some linking is also repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “and” and “also.” Organise each body paragraph around one clear reason, then use linking phrases to show cause, contrast or example more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “high levels of sugar,” “health problems,” “obesity,” “fatty liver” and “healthy lifestyle.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make the writing less clear or natural, such as “packet food,” “sweet tooth,” “cave for sweet food” and “fullfill their cravings.” Repeated general terms such as “food,” “healthy” and “sugar” also reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for discussing pricing and consumption, and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain your position rather than relying on broad statements.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including cause-and-effect structures such as “Because sometimes they are busy with their work and study…” and a concessive opening in the conclusion. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to process. Examples include “it can causes,” “I am not agree,” “people should be concern,” and “When they try to avoid sugary food, stated to cave.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also unreliable, as in “in home. And also.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms after auxiliaries, and complete clauses. Aim to make each sentence grammatically complete before adding further ideas, while continuing to practise a wider range of sentence patterns.
