Student answer (Band 5.5)

Modernisation has boosted the culture of instant food and it's busy life schedule has make a habit of people to eat in hotels and restaurants. The food available in hotels and restaurants and in shops contain more sugar which gives instant energy to people when consumed. These manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. The statement says that these sugary product should be made more expensive so, people will get encourage to consume less sugar.

Yes, i do agree with this statement to some extent. If the foods and drinks will get expensive then most of the people will not be able to afford it. Hence, reducing in it's sale and people will not purchase it or less people will buy it. There are many health problems occur due to more intake of these sugary products such as blood pressure, high cholestrol, heart attack, clotting in blood streams, diabetes, obesity and many more which can have a very harmful impact on one's health and can also takes away the lives of the people. If the products will get more expensive then the poor and middle class people will surely not buy it and can be saved from the other health related problems. Further, their hospitals bill comes down which leads the with some money in their hands to spend in other things or to invest somewhere else.

However, i do disagree with the statement given that making these products expensive will encourage people to consume less sugar. If people want to consume the products available in hotels, shops and restaurants they will, bypassing the price rise. Or these coampanies will come with some new ideas and products marking them low sugar but actually can cause harmful effect on people's health.

In the conclusion, people should be made more aware about the health problems causing because of these sugary products rather then auditing and guiding the prices of these products. If people will get alert about their health consequences caused because of these products then automatically and gradually, people will stop purchasing it and be able to save their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question and give a qualified position: you agree that higher prices may reduce purchases among people with limited incomes, but disagree that price rises will reliably change everyone’s behaviour. The health risks and possible effect on household spending are relevant supporting points. However, the response does not fully develop either side: the claim that poorer consumers “can be saved” is broad, and the opposing point that companies may introduce low-sugar products is not clearly explained. Your conclusion shifts toward awareness campaigns without directly weighing this against price increases. Develop the reasoning with a specific example and make your final position on the proposed policy more decisive. The response meets the stated length requirement; 15 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph supporting price increases, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Hence,” “Further,” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the list of health problems is followed by claims about affordability and hospital bills without fully showing how these points connect. Some links are also mechanical or awkward, and the conclusion introduces awareness as the preferred solution without clearly connecting it to the earlier discussion. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, then explain and illustrate it in a logical sequence. Clearer references to “these products” and “price increases” would also help readers follow the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “high levels of sugar,” “health problems,” “price rise,” and “health consequences.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main argument, and some phrases show an attempt to discuss effects, such as “harmful impact on one’s health.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “instant food,” “get encourage,” “hospitals bill,” and “auditing and guiding the prices.” Spelling errors such as “cholestrol” and “coampanies” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling; for example, use “processed food,” “be encouraged,” and “hospital bills.” This would make your reasoning easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “If the foods and drinks will get expensive…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” These attempts show an effort to express cause and contrast, but errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “it’s busy life schedule has make,” “the products…contain,” and “can also takes away,” where verb forms or agreement are incorrect. Conditional sentences also need more accurate structures: “If prices rise, fewer people may buy these products” is clearer. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. Greater control of these patterns would make your ideas more readable while allowing you to retain varied sentence structures.
