Student answer (Band 5.0)

Many people often argue that processed food and chemical added drink products contain excess sugar which are responsible for many serious diseases. From my perspective, I completely agree with this statement because it causes various health issues and these manufactered food has little nutrition value.

On the one hand, modern life is fast-paced which provides less time for people to consume home made food, leading them to rely on processed food and snacks whuch have high level of sugar, salt and unhealthy fat. Moreover, these food and drink are significantly cheaper than fresh vegetables and fruits. Besides, many families have less income than others, leaving no room for them to buy fresh food. As a result, people suffer from many diseases like food poison, obesity and diarrhea.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

Your position is clear in the opening: “I completely agree,” and you identify health concerns and low nutritional value as reasons. You also begin to explain why people choose processed products, mentioning limited time and affordability. However, the response only minimally addresses the central proposal: whether making sugary products more expensive would reduce consumption. The discussion shifts to the cost of fresh food and diseases, without explaining how a price increase might change purchasing habits or considering possible limitations. The final sentence, “So, governments have c,” is unfinished, leaving your argument and conclusion incomplete. The response also falls short of the required minimum length, so the ideas are too limited and underdeveloped to fully answer the task. Develop each reason with explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by a body paragraph, and “On the one hand,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” signal relationships between ideas. The progression within the body is partly understandable, moving from busy lifestyles to reliance on processed food and then to health effects. However, the argument does not develop through a complete sequence of paragraphs, and the final line is cut off, so there is no conclusion. Some links are also unclear: the claim that processed products are cheaper than fresh food is followed by a point about low-income families, but the connection to the proposed sugar price increase is not made explicit. Use a clear paragraph for each main reason and finish by restating your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “processed food,” “high level of sugar,” “unhealthy fat,” “fresh vegetables and fruits,” and “obesity.” These choices make the general subject clear, and “fast-paced” is an effective descriptive phrase. However, the range is limited, and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “chemical added drink products” is unclear, “food poison” is not the intended disease term, and “manufactered” and “whuch” are misspelled. Repetition of “food,” “people,” and “health problems” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate topic-specific expressions such as “sugar-sweetened beverages,” “nutritional value,” and “food poisoning,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “fast-paced which provides less time” and a participial construction in “leading them to rely on processed food.” These attempts show some range, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “products contain excess sugar which are responsible” has unclear agreement, while “these food and drink are” needs a plural form or a different construction. “Many families have less income than others” is grammatically possible but does not clearly express the intended comparison. The final sentence is incomplete, and the opening sentence is difficult to control. Use shorter, complete sentences where needed, then check subject–verb agreement and noun forms.
