Student answer (Band 6.0)

Today, many health problems caused by consumption of foods and drinks with higher level of sugar. People believe that goverments should set up high prices for these products to encourage people to consume less sugar. I partly agree with this statement because i believe that this approach will help individuals against several diseases. However, I also believe that this measure will put more financial pressure on low incoming people.

On the one hand, I think that sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. This approach will protect people from different health problems because people will think before buying such an expensive product. For example, nowadays, sugary products such as cold drinks are not much expensive and people drink it on a daily basis which contains high level of sugar. Consequently, when authorities should made these products more expensive, people may stop consuming it on a daily basis.

On the other hand, I believe that if goverments should set up high prices for the food items than it will put more financial pressure on people with low incomes. For instance, many individuals such as laborers have limited amount of incomes and they hardly able to buy food items for a daily intake. Therefore, high prices of basic food items should put them in under finanicial pressure.

In conclusion, although setting up high prices for sugary products help to protect people from many health problems, I believe that it is a disadvantage for people with low salaries. From my perspective, administrations should adopt a balanced approach such as sugary food prices should be high for the patients already suffering from sugar.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partly agree because higher prices may discourage sugar consumption, but could burden people on low incomes. Both sides are relevant, and the cold-drink example helps illustrate the first argument. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that people will stop buying sugary products is not supported with much explanation, while the low-income argument shifts from sugary products to “basic food items,” which makes its relevance less clear. Your final suggestion—that prices should be higher for patients already suffering from sugar-related illness—also needs explanation and does not fully resolve the affordability concern. Develop the consequences more precisely and make sure your proposed solution directly addresses the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs, and a conclusion. “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” make the shift between arguments easy to follow, and the conclusion returns to your position. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, connections within sentences are sometimes awkward or unclear, as in “Therefore, high prices of basic food items should put them in under financial pressure.” The repeated use of “people” and “products” also makes the flow somewhat mechanical. Use pronouns and linking phrases with clear references, and ensure each paragraph develops one consistent point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “consumption,” “financial pressure,” “authorities,” and “daily intake.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. For example, “low incoming people” and “limited amount of incomes” are not natural ways to describe this group, while “set up high prices” is an awkward collocation. There are also spelling errors such as “goverments” and “finanicial.” Build a more accurate set of phrases for discussing taxation, affordability, and health, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would make your arguments clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “when authorities should made these products more expensive” and a concession in the conclusion. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, the opening lacks a main verb (“Today, many health problems caused…”), and “people drink it” does not agree with the plural subject “products.” Other issues include “they hardly able” and the incorrect verb form in “should made.” Practise complete sentence structures, subject–verb agreement, and modal verb patterns such as “should make.” These corrections, alongside more accurate complex sentences, would improve control.
