Student answer (Band 5.0)

According to my point of view it is not sufficient to just make smoking illegal in public places to discourage it.A lot people just ignore the waring written on the packets.Government had taken a number of measures to restrict smoking at public places whereas on the other hand some special bars are opened just for enjoying smoking. It broaden and increase the trend of smoking among young generations.

It is merely impossible to properly restrict its use from everywhere, because just making it illegal in public places is not a best solution to restrict smoking. There is to make people aware about its negative effects on heath.Although many educatinal and social organisation are continously working in thid field but still there is need to spread aware related to this injurious smoking.Along with this a strict action should be taken on the medical stores onwers those are selling cigrettes and other drugs to adults.

Recently,I read an article by a doctor, whose team had made a survey they found that a number of school students are addicted to it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a clear overall opinion that banning smoking in public places is not sufficient, and you suggest other measures, including public education and stricter action against sellers. These points are relevant to the question. However, the discussion of the opposing view—that public-place bans can discourage smoking—is very brief, and the reasons for your own position are not developed with explanation or specific examples. The reference to a survey of school students is too vague to provide convincing support. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so there is limited space to address both views fully. Develop each side with a reason and a concrete example, then state your conclusion clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: you begin with your opinion, then discuss awareness and enforcement, and finish with a reference to a survey. Linking expressions such as “whereas,” “because,” and “Along with this” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, the response is presented as one paragraph, and the progression between points is not always clear. For example, the move from restrictions in public places to special smoking bars is abrupt, while the final survey is not connected to a clear conclusion. Some links are also awkward or repetitive. Use separate paragraphs for the two views and your opinion, and make each paragraph develop one main point with clear links between the supporting explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “illegal in public places,” “negative effects,” “addicted,” and “restrict smoking,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to follow, such as “waring,” “heath,” “educatinal,” and “cigrettes.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise: “spread aware” and “special bars are opened just for enjoying smoking” do not express the ideas clearly. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “raise awareness,” “smoking venues,” and “tobacco retailers” would help you explain your proposals more clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer structures, including a sentence beginning “Although many educational and social organisations…” and another using “because.” However, the range remains limited, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and punctuation occur frequently enough to make reading less smooth. For example, “According to my point of view it is not sufficient…” needs clearer punctuation and phrasing, while “Government had taken a number of measures” has an inaccurate article and tense. The sentence about the doctor’s team and its survey also joins several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking articles, verb tense, and sentence boundaries.
