Student answer (Band 6.5)
it us certainly true that smoking is not only dangerous for health but it also more harmful for the non smokers due to their connection with air. So, some people say that it should be illegal at the public places where as other said that is not enough, there should be strict action to be needed to control it. I will discuss both the views in the following paragraphs with conclusion.
on the side of the smoking should be illegal at the public places create a proactive wall for non smokers which includes pregnant women, kids, hospitality staff. It creates health disease to others such as heart diseases and lung cancer to mother and new born babies at younger age. Moreover, if it become banned in the public parks then it should not be adaptable by the teenage because it became less visible in the market. For example, most of the kids follow the movies in which actors light cigarette to become cool and it copied by the adults to show the girls how are they cool.
on the other hand, if they banned smoking in public doesn't stop people from smoking. It often shifts the behavior into private homes and cars, exposing family members (especially children) to higher concentrations of secondhand smoke. Furthermore, nicotine is highly addictive. Simply restricting public spaces doesn't address the underlying chemical dependency or psychological triggers of long-term smokers.
In the conclusion, i want to say the smoking should be banned at public grounds but there should be regular checking about that people follow the rules.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph attempts to explain the benefits of banning smoking in public, but the argument regarding teenagers and movies is slightly tangential and lacks logical cohesion. The second body paragraph is more focused, addressing the limitations of public bans. While the prompt is addressed, the ideas could be extended further with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief and lacks a summary of the main points discussed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, phrases like 'on the side of the smoking' and 'on the other hand' are used to signal transitions, but the internal flow within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'if it become banned in the public parks then it should not be adaptable by the teenage'. The progression of ideas is present but could be smoother with more varied linking words.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'connection with air' instead of 'air quality' or 'secondhand smoke', and 'create a proactive wall' instead of 'provide a protective barrier'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the student struggles with word forms, such as 'it become banned' instead of 'if it becomes banned'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated vocabulary limits the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Frequent issues include subject-verb agreement ('other said', 'it become banned'), article usage ('the smoking', 'the teenage'), and sentence fragments. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas and periods. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text and demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
