Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people think that smoking can be discouraged by making it illegal at public places but some other people think that only it is not enough, we should take more and other measures to discourage the smoking and end it.

Basically smoking is a harmful act, that can lead to injurious health effects and I think the decision to Ban it at Public places is pretty good to discourage the smoking and stop it, but We can also take more measures and steps to discourage the smoking like we can Ban the cigarettes or smoking products in Region, we can have Heavy Tax Duties or Complete Ban on purchasing of Nicotine Smoking products and these ways can help to discourage the smoking.

Moreover only Government measures are not enough to end the smoking and harmful products in society, we have to discourage and boycott it on our own and should teach our children and next generations to discourage and avoid it. As if we ourselves avoid the smoking, it can't survives in society and hence will end with time.

Smoking can effect new generations as they take it as Cool looking symbol or Good vibes but in reality, it completely opposite, we have to discourage it at all conditions under every measures and every precautions. Smoking can cause Mental disturbance, health problems and environmental pollution by releasing chemicals in air by cigarettes smoke.

Conclusion is that we have to take every measure to discourage the smoking by Government End and Society End also.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. While you mention banning products and societal responsibility, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or logical consequences. The argument remains a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on the general idea of 'discouraging' smoking rather than exploring the nuances of why public bans might be insufficient. To reach a higher band, ensure each main point is supported by a clear explanation or a concrete example that demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed measures.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'Smoking can...' or 'We have to...'. The transition between the two views and your own opinion could be smoother. While there is a logical progression, the lack of varied linking words (such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast') makes the flow feel a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of transition signals would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', and 'harmful' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'Government End and Society End', which are not standard English. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to public health policy and social behavior. You should also focus on using more sophisticated synonyms to avoid repeating the same words throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. Issues include incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'it can't survives'), capitalization errors (e.g., 'Ban', 'Public'), and missing articles. Some sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, which occasionally makes the meaning slightly unclear. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall flow. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
