Student answer (Band 6.0)
in this modern era, smoking is a widespread habit that poses a serious threat to public health. according to the some people prohibiting smoking in public places is the most effective way to discourage individuals from smoking. while other people believe that approached should be accompanied by some other measures. on the following paragraph i am going to discuss both view and my opinion about the given statement.
to commence with, it is not deniable that banning smoking in public places discourage the habit and protect wider community. First and foremost is it protect non smokers from second hand smoke. which can cause range of health problems . this is particularly important in public spots like restaurants , shopping centres, working place and public transport. when people are unable to smoke freely in public the habit becomes less convenient. for example teenager who rarely see adults smoking in public may be less like cigrates in their everyday life. consequently public smoking bans help to the protect population from developing this habits.
moving forward i completly agree with who believe that additional measures are required for control smoking. many long term smokers are dependent on nicotine and may continue smoking in private places after public bans are introduced government should bring more effective measures like increase taxes in tobacoo products as higher which can discourage people from buying specially youngers . in addition media and schools provide accurate information about serious health issues happens with Smoking,
in conclusion banning smoking can not completely solve the problems but atleast people got awarness about their health conditions if they do not consume ciggrates or other kind of alcoholic products.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the argument for public bans is supported by examples like restaurants and transport, the discussion on 'additional measures' is less detailed. The conclusion is slightly off-topic by mentioning 'alcoholic products,' which was not part of the prompt. To reach a higher band, ensure that all arguments are fully extended and that the conclusion directly reflects the points discussed in the body paragraphs without introducing new, irrelevant topics.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'to commence with,' 'moving forward,' and 'in addition,' although some are used mechanically. There are issues with punctuation and sentence boundaries, such as the fragment 'which can cause range of health problems.' Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more naturally rather than relying on simple transitions at the start of paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors, such as 'cigrates' (cigarettes), 'tobacoo' (tobacco), and 'youngers' (young people). The phrase 'happens with Smoking' is awkward and lacks natural collocation. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'second hand smoke' and 'nicotine,' the overall range is limited. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms to avoid distracting the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include missing articles ('protect wider community'), subject-verb agreement issues ('media and schools provide... happens'), and incorrect word forms ('approached' instead of 'approaches'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several instances of misplaced periods and commas. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for articles and verb forms would be beneficial.
