Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era, the consumption of smoking is increasing day by day. This is a biggest issue in the youngsters life. Nowadays, some of the people say that the best way to discourage the smoking is to make it illegal in the public area, however some people say that this is not enough to do and more measurements should be taken. In this paragraph i will discuss both of the points and will provide my opinion.

To start with, some of the people believe that government should ban the smoking in public areas which is good for people because when they smoke in the public the young generation watch and learn from them. They encourage them to do smoking because children learn from their elders. They want to try what they see from the elders. so it should be banned in the public areas.

On the other hand side, the smoking should be banned from everywhere, in the public area is not enough. first of all, if parents smoke at home children learn from them. The government should banned the smoking packet from all over the market, they should also encourage children and the people not to smoke. for example, government should aware people by advertisements, posters and newspapers. If they do this the youngest and older generation will know the disadvantages of smoking as it affect the health very badly which decreases the life span.

To conclude, I believe that government should aware people regarding this hazards and should strictly banned it to make and to sell from all over the world. If they do not sell the smoking packets people do not have nay option to buy.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that public bans influence children, the argument could be more deeply explored by discussing the effectiveness of enforcement or the impact on individual freedom. The second view is addressed by suggesting broader measures like advertising and banning sales, which is relevant. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported with more specific reasoning or examples rather than repeating the idea that children learn from elders. The conclusion clearly states your position, which helps maintain a consistent stance throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To start with', 'On the other hand side', and 'To conclude' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise. For example, the transition between the idea of public bans and the broader measures could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could benefit from more varied linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple sentence-by-sentence progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'smoking' and 'public areas'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'measurements' instead of 'measures' and 'aware people' instead of 'raise awareness among people'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and synonyms, such as 'public health initiatives', 'legislative action', or 'deterrent strategies'. The current vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your meaning, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government should banned'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the consumption of smoking is increasing'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and verb forms limit the score. To improve, focus on mastering the use of modal verbs (e.g., 'should ban' instead of 'should banned') and ensuring consistent tense usage throughout your arguments.
