Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, smoking has played significant role in todays generation. It is very harmful to health .so many peoples believe that it should be banning at public place is the best solution. on other side it often believe additional measures are neccessary. as per my prospective, I believe that smoking in public place should be banned and it is useful but it also combined with other measures .

First ,I talk about if smoking is prohibited and follow strictly rules then it is benefits for non-smoker who are sometimes may also known as second-hand smoking ,it also affect there health and might cause disease , as in medical it says that second handed smokers get more Tuberculosis genes then chain smoker . moreover, rules is important because if the dont allow in some place then it may less convinent and people may smoke less. for example, if smoking is prohibited in resturant, parks and work spaces then they might get less oppurtunities to smoke during the day .

furthermore, if goverment increase the price or tax of ciggarate then some people ,especially young people may stop buying . which plays a positive impact , in addition to that , if they give education and support programme such as teach people about the dangers of smoking and help smokers quit for instance, goverments could provide free counselling or smoking -cessation programme for people who want to quit .

In conclusion, banning smoking in public places is effective .However, it is no enough by itself. A combination of bans, higher taxes and education is more effective

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as discussing second-hand smoke and the economic impact of taxes. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim about 'Tuberculosis genes' is scientifically inaccurate and lacks proper support. The essay covers all parts of the prompt, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with more logical reasoning. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall depth of the discussion remains at a basic level, preventing it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices like 'First', 'furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow is often mechanical, and some transitions are awkward, such as 'as per my prospective'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the internal structure of sentences sometimes lacks smooth connectivity. While the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of some transitions limit the score to a 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There are frequent spelling errors, such as 'neccessary', 'ciggarate', 'oppurtunities', and 'resturant'. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, for example, 'smoking has played significant role' (should be 'plays a significant role') and 'second handed smokers'. While the meaning is generally clear, the limited range and the number of spelling mistakes indicate a level that does not consistently meet the criteria for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('rules is important'), article usage ('in public place'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are poorly constructed, such as 'it is very harmful to health .so many peoples believe'. While the student attempts complex structures, these are often marred by errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. The frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, as error-free sentences are not the majority.
