Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people think that making smoking is illegally in public areas is a way to reduce smoking, but some people think that it is not a good way to reduce smoking and other action is neccessary. In my perspective, smoking is banned in public places, but other measures are also recommended.

First, banning smoking is reduce in public places. people cannot smoke in the public places such as parks, restaurants and commercial buildings because it is also protects from the first hand smoker to second hand smoker. In addition, it would be health for incline the safety of public and this help to reduce the respiratory problems by banning smoking. For instance, people used cigarratte smoking in public places smoke to flow in the air due this general public would suffer various health issues.

However, this law is not enough. we need to take more action this regarding. Smokers can still smoke at home and private places. Therefore, government should take strict actions such as when people do the smoking in public areas, they implement the high penalty for those people. they also give counselling regarding how smoking is higly impact on health.

In conclusion, banning smoking in public areas are good idea but we need to take other measures to reduce smoking. In my perspective, authority give education regarding smoking and charge them in these ways would more impactful.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of the arguments. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial; for example, the explanation of why banning smoking is beneficial is repetitive and lacks specific, well-developed examples. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations and concrete examples to ensure the word count is met and the arguments are fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'In addition, it would be health for incline the safety'. Some transitions are missing or awkward, making the flow between sentences feel disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the law and the proposed penalties is abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will help create a smoother progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and word formation, such as 'making smoking is illegally' instead of 'making smoking illegal' and 'incline the safety' which is not a standard collocation. Spelling errors like 'cigarratte' and 'neccessary' also occur. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is not sufficient to demonstrate flexibility or precision. You should focus on learning collocations and ensuring you use the correct word forms in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'banning smoking is reduce in public places' and 'people used cigarratte smoking in public places smoke to flow in the air'. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While some complex structures are attempted, they are often faulty. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and reducing the frequency of errors in tense and word order.
