Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some people argue that , banning smoking in public areas is the most appropriate deal with the issue while others states that their are some other options to deal with this issues. I believe that it is good measure but not the most important one.

First of all , most of the the areas instead of

or example , restaurants , parks , malls and etc. Banning smoking un these area will directly or indirectly does effect the habits for a smoker. It does help them to reduce the addiction for some period of time while they are in that particular area. However, it is not at all a permanent solution to the problem.

Alternative to this, there should be another way to reduce the populations of smokers. In which first could be more awareness about the negative impacts of smoking on our health. There are signs of dangers marked on the smoking products , but there signs should be cleared mentioned on the product in highlighted words , so one can clearly see the warning signs without ignoring it . For example , a clear indication of lung cancer , asthma should be written on cigigrattes , e smoking and others products .Secondly , could possibly be making more strict laws and regulations against underage people . As it would help to not to make them addicted towards smoking.

In conclusion , while restricting smoking in public places is good way to deal with this issue , but there are others way as well through which the problem could be dealt with, such as education the community and awareness about the harmful effects of smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention banning smoking in public and suggest alternative measures like education and stricter laws, the explanation for these points is brief and lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on 'underage people' is underdeveloped and could benefit from a more detailed explanation of how such regulations would function in practice. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with specific examples or logical consequences, rather than simply listing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First of all', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'most of the the areas instead of' which lacks a clear connection to the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, but there are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'cigigrattes' and 'states' instead of 'state'. You rely on relatively simple vocabulary throughout the essay. To improve, try to incorporate more precise, topic-specific terminology related to public health and policy. For example, instead of 'good measure', you could use 'effective strategy' or 'preventative measure'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your main points, the errors and lack of sophisticated lexical items limit your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Examples include 'does effect the habits' (should be 'affect'), 'their are some other options' (should be 'there are'), and 'education the community' (should be 'educating'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While you attempt complex sentences, they are often marred by errors in subject-verb agreement and word form. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring correct verb usage will significantly improve your score.
