Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, smoking is very dangerous and harmful activity for individuals and give number of life - threatening Problems. Although some people think to make illegal smoking on public places is a big step for improvement, other folks argue that it is not enough and more measures are needed. Both points will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs before forming my opinion.

To begin with, there are number of benefits individuals gets by ban smoking on public places. The primary one is parents can visit in public places with their juveniles without any uncomfortable environment. Moreover, air pollution will be reduced if smoking becomes illegal on local sites. Secondly smoking is very dangerous for active as well as passive smokers. So, if smoking will stop on parks, hospitals and other public places, other people also be not effected by the flame of smoking . For example, according to the study of National Health Department of India 25% people who face problems by smoking are passive smokers.

On the other hand , only make illegal smoking on public places is not sufficient , there are some other ways which are must be implicated to reduce the percentage of smoking such as , increase duties and tax on the sales of smoking products by authorities is very helpful to reduce the smokers. Furthermore, people should aware about the side effects of smoking more clearly and for that vv the government held some local programmes which mainly spread awareness between natives of their nation .

In conclusion, although make smoking illegal has number of benefits , I would like to opine the opinion in the favour of other folks because other steps are important for reducing the smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention benefits like protecting children and reducing air pollution, the arguments remain at a surface level. The second body paragraph introduces relevant points like taxation and public awareness, but these could be expanded with more specific reasoning or examples to reach a higher band. The position is consistent, but the overall depth of the discussion is characteristic of a mid-range performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'Secondly', and 'On the other hand' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'I would like to opine the opinion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'make illegal smoking' and 'public places'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'juveniles' (which is usually a legal term, not a synonym for children) and 'implicated' (where 'implemented' was intended). To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary and ensure that words are used in their correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'give number of life-threatening Problems' (missing subject/article), 'if smoking will stop' (incorrect conditional tense), and 'people should aware' (missing verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
