Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views regarding smoking bans and suggests additional measures. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention that smoking is injurious and suggest taxes and counseling, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The position is somewhat clear, but the introduction is repetitive and lacks a strong thesis statement. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea with clear examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Moreover' and 'However' are used frequently but sometimes inappropriately, such as starting sentences with 'Moreover' when no previous point has been fully established. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is often disjointed. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'invividuals', 'smok', 'publich', 'drawbak', and 'diesese'. These errors occasionally make it difficult for the reader to follow the intended meaning. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'contemporary society' and 'counselling programmes', the range is narrow. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of common academic words and try to incorporate more precise synonyms to avoid repeating basic terms like 'smoking' or 'people'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a limited range of grammatical structures, and the essay contains frequent errors in sentence construction, verb tense, and subject-verb agreement. For instance, 'smokig is become a part society' and 'goveronment should to take action' are grammatically incorrect. Many sentences are simple, and attempts at complex structures often result in errors that impede clarity. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns, specifically the correct use of modal verbs (e.g., 'should take' instead of 'should to take') and ensuring consistent verb forms throughout your writing.
