Student answer (Band 6.0)

The notion of prohibiting smoking in public places to discourage the smokers is controversial today. While some individuals believe that smoking should be banned in public place, I believe that more stronger actions should be taken. This essay will support the view of strict actions should be measured for the smokers.

On the one side, citizen gets the flexibility to smoke at other places in private or while in some hidden places. Smoker get chance that they will got in car or in washroom and smoke. For instance, individual is in public place and wanted to smoke will try to search a place like washroom or parking where no one could watch him. But he will smoke anyhow due to harmful addiction of cigarettes. Consequently, it is harmful for population and himself due to its adverse effect to environment.

On the flip side of it, all the smoking things like cigarette and vape should be banned. If person would not be able to get it in any store, there less feasibility to smoke. Even strict regulation must be made by the governments which will result in charging huge amount from smoker. For example, Although when they do not found things to smoke, they will try to confer it illegal way. Thus strong action will leads them to skip the lethal habits.

To sum up, smoking affects to population if they smoke or not. Discouraging the residents from smoking is good idea but it helps them to smoke at private places. Whereas powerful actions and rules will stop them from smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument that banning smoking in public is insufficient is supported by the idea that smokers will simply find private places, but this point is not fully explored or extended. The suggestion to ban all tobacco products is a relevant idea, but the explanation of how this would be implemented or its broader consequences is underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning and specific examples that illustrate the impact of these policies rather than just stating that they are 'good' or 'strong'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one side', 'On the flip side', and 'To sum up' to signal the structure. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'Smoker get chance that they will got in car'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the connection between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. You use basic terms like 'good idea', 'strong actions', and 'things to smoke'. There are also instances of word-choice errors, such as 'more stronger' (a double comparative) and 'confer it illegal way'. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary does not demonstrate the flexibility or the use of less common items required for a higher band. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to public policy and health, and avoid repetitive or overly simple phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('citizen gets', 'Smoker get'), incorrect verb forms ('they will got'), and awkward sentence construction ('Although when they do not found things to smoke'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the misuse of articles and prepositions is common. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence patterns and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and tense consistency before attempting more complex structures.
