Student answer (Band 6.0)
Smoking is harmful for both smokers and people around them. Some people believe that banning smoking in public places is the best way to stop this habit, while other argue that this is not enough, but additional measures are necessary. This essay will discuss both views, I believe that prohibiting smoking in public is helpful, but others measures are also necessary.
On the one hand, banning smoking in public places can be beneficial for both smokers and people around them. It will help smokers reduce smoking and eventually get rid of this habit. In addition, this rule can protect non-smokers from passive smoking, which may cause aome serious health issues such as lung disease. For example, if smoking is banned in public places, such as parks, restaurants, theatres, shopping malls and hospitals, smokers have limited places for smoking. Because of this reason public can get fresh breathing in air. Therefore, introducing this types of laws can create healthier atmosphere among the people.
on the other hand, there are others way to stop smoking in public places. Firstly, goverments should take measures, such as increasing price of cigarettes , imposing higher taxes on imports of cigarettes can discourge smoking in public. Moreover, NGOS and charitable trust should cone together spread awareness about the negative effects of smoking through campaigns, camps and movies. Higher prices may stop , especially youth to buy cigarettes. Educational programs should be introduced in schools si many students can get aware about harmful effects of smoking on health. I believe with this view because of mentioned above reasons.
Iny view, prohibiting smoking in public places such as schools, hospitals and restuarants can make a great positive impact on smokers and it is also beneficial for public. However, there are others way such as increasing taxes on cigarettes, spreading awareness through campaign and educational programs in schools.
To sum up, making smoking illegal in public can help to protect non-smokers from passive smoking and reduce opportunities for people who smoke. However, in may opinion, this measure is still not sufficient. Governments should introduce strict laws on buying cigarettes spreading awareness among the youth and people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on how to discourage smoking and clearly stating the writer's own opinion. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as discussing passive smoking, higher taxation, and educational programs. However, some arguments lack deep extension, and there are slight repetitions across body paragraphs and the conclusion. Nevertheless, the requirements for this band are met well, as the core prompts of the task are adequately covered with a clear stance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is generally coherent with a recognizable overall progression. Paragraphing is utilized to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion, although the conclusion is split into two very short final paragraphs. Cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'For example' are used, but referencing and linking can sometimes feel mechanical or repetitive, such as 'others way' and 'I believe with this view'. Overall arrangement is logical enough to guide the reader through the arguments without confusion, fitting the criteria for a solid band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'passive smoking', 'lung disease', and 'imposing higher taxes'. However, there are noticeable word choice and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'aome' instead of 'some', 'fresh breathing in air' instead of 'fresh air to breathe', 'governments' miscapitalized and misspelled as 'goverments', 'cone together' instead of 'come together', and 'si many' instead of 'so many'. These errors do not impede overall communication but prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, using conditional clauses ('if smoking is banned...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as comma splices and missing prepositions ('others measures are also necessary', 'especially youth to buy cigarettes', 'spreading awareness among the youth and people'). While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the high frequency of minor grammatical slips restricts the control needed for a Band 7.
