Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many think that smoking can be discouraged by making it illegal in public places whereas other believe important steps should be implemented, but I think a better option is to construct separate chambers to have a smoke on public property.
To begin with, some people opine that smoking in public places should be decarled illegal to protect other individuals because it is equally dangerous for the person who is standing nearby to person who is smoking. Apart from this, the major reason of fire in public property is due to smoking recklessly. So, it becomes important to remove smoking permanenty from such locations.
Nevertheless, other people believe that only one rule is not enough for smoking and other measures are also needed. To explain it, government should take strict actions against such people who are smoking in public such as, individuals should be punished with large amount of penalty. For instance, developed countries such as Canada, Australia, United States already have such rules for people safety and well-being. Therefore, it is essential for societies safety.
In my opinion, separate rooms should be constructed on public areas for smoking as it is individual choice to smoke. This choice will give smokers more freedom. For example, bus stop, railway stations, and other public spots must have such facilities. I believe the areas where smoking is risky must be prohibited with penalty.
In conclusion, the best way to tackle with smoking issue is to build separate chambers for smoking on public property and banning smoking on restricted areas with penalty for people's safety.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views (banning smoking in public vs. needing additional measures) and presenting a clear personal opinion regarding the construction of separate smoking chambers. The student develops their main ideas with supporting arguments, such as protecting bystanders and the risk of fires, and includes examples from developed countries like Canada and Australia. However, the position is somewhat unconventional and could have been extended more deeply to reach higher bands. Nevertheless, all prompt requirements are met satisfactorily, corresponding to a Band 6.5 or solid 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is coherent overall with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct point. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'Nevertheless', 'To explain it', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple sentences with 'To explain it' or 'For example'. Despite these minor flaws in mechanical cohesion, the overall arrangement is clear, supporting a Band 6.0 rating.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'decarled' (intended as declared), 'recklessly', and 'prohibited'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'decarled' instead of 'declared', 'other believe' instead of 'others believe', and 'societies safety' instead of 'society's safety'. Additionally, collocations like 'large amount of penalty' rather than 'heavy fine' indicate limitations. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text. Examples include 'to person who is smoking' (missing article), 'the major reason of fire in public property is due to smoking' (faulty collocation and phrasing), and 'such people who are smoking' (wordiness). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical inaccuracies occur regularly, though they rarely impede the overall communication of ideas, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
