Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is argued that the possible way to discourage vaping is to ban smoking in public zones. Other individuals think that this method have some limitions and that other measures are needed. This essay will discuss both sides of it before giving my own opinion.

On the one hand, a large number of people works in public areas such as hospitals, banks, airports, and mines, proper ban on smoking in these areas can be a beneficial step. To explain it, people cannot smoke throughout the day while they are working in a public zones. For instance, a report conducted by WHO, revelead that the 20% of mine workers quit smoking every year because they are not allowed to smoke within the mine properties which make it eassy for them to avoid this. Therefore, there are certain level of chances to minimize the affect of smoking by making it illegal in public areas.

On the other hand, there are some more ways to deal with this issue. Firstly, the government should involve in this matter to increase the tax on smoking related products, which can make it expenive habit and people may try to avoid it. Moreover, another way to discourage people is to run awareness campaigns and provide proper information about the negative effects of smoking. Last but not the least, it is better to educate children on early age about the health problems related to these products, In other words, eductional hubs should take it as a part of their academic curriculum.

All in all, although there are chances to discourage individuals by banning smoking in public areas, I believe that the other factors also play a significant role to minimize the intake of smoking related products, the joint contribution of government and educational hubs can be a best way to cover this issue on a large scale.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether banning smoking in public places is enough and providing their own clear position in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported, such as the mention of WHO reports regarding mine workers and the suggestion of increased taxation and educational campaigns. However, there is a slight shift in focus in the opening sentence where the student writes 'vaping' instead of 'smoking', and some arguments are slightly generalized. Overall, the task is well addressed, earning a Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The response features a clear overall progression and logical organization with appropriate paragraphing. The introduction sets out the essay structure, followed by distinct body paragraphs starting with transitional markers like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. Cohesive devices are generally used appropriately, though there are some minor mechanical links, such as 'To explain it' and 'Last but not the least'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the contrasting views and the conclusion. This reflects a solid Band 7.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'beneficial step', 'awareness campaigns', and 'academic curriculum'. However, there are notable word-choice errors, such as 'limitions' instead of limitations, 'revelead' (revealed), 'expenive' (expensive), 'eassy' (easy), and 'eductional' (educational). Furthermore, the confusion between smoking and vaping in the first sentence shows slight lexical inaccuracy. Because these errors do not impede overall communication, the lexical resource is rated at a Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'this method have some limitions' and 'a large number of people works', as well as a comma splice in the final paragraph. Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded, placing the essay comfortably within the Band 6.0 category.
