Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe that by stoping people to smoke in public places can reduce smoking, while others argue that this step is not enogh, there should be more measures can be taken by individuals or govenments. i will discuss both views and give my opinion before presenting conclusion.
On the one hand, many people argue that the cease on smoking in public place can effectively reduce smoking, but this steps can only reduce smoking in public places, what about private areas. For example, if govenments implements some laws to reduce smoking in trains or bus station, they can reduce the number of smokers, who use public services on regular basis. However, by implementing this regulation only in public place cannot singnificantly reduce smoking.
On the other hand, other and I also believe that, by implementing stricter rule and regulation on the sale of products, governements can reduce smoking. For example, governments should restrict selling for products such as cigarates, vape and many more sources of smoking available in the market, they can cease smoking. Moreover, individuals can also spread awareness amongs people via campaings or seminars regarding the negative effects of smoking, this can make people aware and help them to guide through healthier lifestyles.
In conclusion, although many people thinks the best way of dicouraging smoking is making it illegal in public places, I believe, combine efferts of individuals and governments can significantly reduce smoking.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views and presenting an opinion, but some ideas remain under-developed. For instance, the discussion on public smoking bans touches upon train and bus stations, but lacks deeper extension. Furthermore, the response is 15 words short of the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of the arguments and impacts overall task coverage. The position is clear, but the limited development of ideas keeps the response at this band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing and basic signaling devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear, as seen in repetitive phrasing and loose links between sentences. Progression is present, but the overall logical flow is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and underdeveloped supporting points, aligning with this band level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'regulations', 'campaigns', and 'awareness'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'stoping', 'enogh', 'govenments', 'cigarates', and 'dicouraging'. These errors and limited lexical flexibility mean that vocabulary is minimally adequate, occasionally causing minor difficulty for the reader without completely impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms that are often faulty, such as 'Some people believe that by stoping people to smoke in public places can reduce smoking'. There are frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as missing prepositions and incorrect verb forms. These errors require some effort from the reader to decode, though meaning is generally preserved.
