Student answer (Band 5.5)

Smoking is one of the dangerous habit, which kills people. Often people say that prohibition of smoke in public is the better way to mitigate this habit, however others believe there should be impliement more legal laws for reducing the ciggrate users. I acknowledge that the government must be establish new regulations for smoke free society. This essay discusses both views and my opinion.

On the one hand, creating laws against smoking in public would help to mitigate the number of users in public areas. This trend would help the smoke-users to avoid this habit entirely from their life. Moreover, abandone of public smokers would also improve the health of people, due to the smoke-free atmosphere. For example, a smoker creates toxic gas into the atmosphere, and breathing of those after product creates lung cancer. However, smoling illegal in public is not only the best way to prevent this toxic habit because people still can use cigrates in their private space.

On the other hand, authorities should create new laws against the smoking habit would be result in reduce the consumption of smoke by individuals. Government can carge more taxes on the tobbacco products and thereby people might be avoid the usage of those product. Moreover, strict laws for selling and buying toxic product is an effective method for reduce thihabis from the general public.

In my opinion, ruling authorities must abndone the tobacco products from the society by implimenting new regualtions and laws, therefor people do not get any chnace for buying and using those products.

Inconclusion, somking illegal in public is not the only effective mesures for reduce the habit implimenting new laws agianist for selling and buying the tobacco products are the best way to avaoid

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on public smoking bans and additional measures, and it provides a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed. For example, while the writer mentions that making smoking illegal in public areas helps reduce numbers, the explanation relies on repetitive points rather than being fully extended with well-reasoned arguments or specific real-world examples. Similarly, the discussion of alternative measures such as taxation lacks depth. To reach the next level, the writer needs to expand on their main ideas with more fully elaborated arguments and richer supporting details rather than skimming the surface of each point.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement to the essay, and the writer makes an attempt to logically sequence ideas through paragraphing. Each body paragraph addresses a distinct theme: the first view, the second view, and the personal opinion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are used, but referencing is occasionally unclear, and cohesive devices are repetitive or inadequately integrated, such as the abrupt conclusion. Furthermore, paragraphing could be used more purposefully to manage transitions. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure smoother logical progression between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'prohibition', 'mitigate', and 'consumption', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form. Examples include 'dangerous habit' instead of habits, 'impliement' for implement, 'ciggrate' and 'cigrates' for cigarettes, 'abandone' for abandonment, and 'tobbacco' for tobacco. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and impede smooth communication. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and use vocabulary with greater precision and fewer mechanical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response displays a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside some attempts at complex forms. However, attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence 'Smoking is one of the dangerous habit, which kills people.' There are frequent errors in grammar, articles, plurals, and verb forms throughout the text, including 'there should be impliement more legal laws', 'government must be establish', 'smoling illegal in public', and 'effective mesures for reduce the habit implimenting new laws agianist for selling'. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer needs to increase sentence variety while maintaining better control over basic grammatical rules, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation.
