Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many countries, mostly people smoke in thier daily life and they are very use too with smoking. Due to this some people think that is only one and best to discourage smoking is illegal in public places. However, other side of the people say that there are other measures are required to control smoking in public areas. So, I will discuss both the views with my opinion in upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, due to smoking many people suffer from very harmfull diseases like asthma, blood cancer and so on. Behalf of this, some part of the society think that there are only one measures to control this situation is to make smoking illegal in public areas. Secondly, it can help people to discourage smoking because in public place there are so many smoking booth are there which is very close to the bus stop or any other crowded area. For example, if person do not smoke in their entire life but when they are close to the smoking booth while waiting for there bus they can smoke through from other people smoking its called passive smoking which can harmfull for their health.

On the other side, many people say that there are so many other solution to control the smoking in public areas. likewise, governments play vital role to ban the smoking because they have power to do so like they can arrange the seminar or event in which they can provide the information regarding how smoking is dangerous. Moreover, not only government but society also put some efforts to control this situation while they can aware the public on social media because in this era mostly people spend their time on technology so they can advertise how we can quite smoking in one month as an example.

In my point of view, I think that is not enough to discourage smoking to make smoking illegal in public places. However, government can help in this situation because they can totally ban the smoking in crowded places. And, society can put some awareness in regarding of smoking which is very harmfull for our health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both views and give a clear opinion in the final paragraph: you argue that banning smoking in public places is not enough and that government and community action are also needed. The discussion is relevant, particularly the point about passive smoking and the suggestion of public-awareness campaigns. However, the two sides are not developed equally or precisely. The first view is presented as if a public-place ban were the only measure, and the explanation of smoking booths and exposure near bus stops is difficult to follow. Your proposed measures also need clearer links to discouraging smoking overall, rather than only controlling it in public areas. Develop each argument with a specific explanation or example, and state your position more directly in the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a concluding opinion. This makes the overall direction easy to identify. You also use signposts such as “First of all,” “On the other side,” and “In my point of view.” However, some linking is mechanical, and connections between ideas are occasionally unclear. For example, the move from smoking booths to passive smoking near a bus stop needs a more explicit explanation, while “Moreover” introduces a related but loosely connected point about social media. Some references, such as “this situation,” are vague. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make the relationship between each claim, explanation, and example explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “passive smoking,” “public places,” “diseases,” and “awareness.” There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “play vital role.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the response awkward or unclear. Examples include “very use too with smoking,” “harmfull diseases,” “put some efforts,” and “quite smoking,” which appears to mean “quit smoking.” Spelling errors such as “thier,” “there” for “their,” and “harmfull” also reduce accuracy. Build a more reliable set of collocations for discussing policy and health, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because,” “while,” and “if.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and verb patterns occur frequently enough to make reading less smooth. For example, “some people think that is only one and best to discourage smoking is illegal” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “there are so many smoking booth are there” has problems with agreement and sentence construction. In “governments play vital role,” an article is also needed. Practise building accurate sentences around one main idea, then add subordinate clauses only when their structure is secure.
