Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You address the topic and give a general view that smoking should be restricted and that people should try to stop. You also mention reasons for restrictions, including second-hand smoke, allergies and harm to students. However, the discussion of both views is only minimal: the first paragraph does not clearly explain why making smoking illegal in public places is the best approach, while the second gives a list of locations rather than developing what additional measures could be used. Your opinion is present but not consistently clear. The response is 245 words, so it is five words below the required minimum; the 22 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop each view with a clear explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has separate paragraphs and uses basic signposting such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Finally,” which helps the reader recognise a broad sequence. However, ideas are not arranged coherently enough within that structure. The opening moves quickly from the two views to “I think it not true,” without clarifying which view you reject. The second paragraph lists places where smoking is prohibited, then shifts to teachers and students, while the final paragraph repeats the recommendation to avoid smoking without adding a distinct concluding point. Some links, such as “Because” beginning a sentence, leave the relationship between ideas unclear. Group related points, explain each link, and use the conclusion to restate a precise position.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use a basic range of topic vocabulary, including “illegal,” “allergy,” “harmful,” “diseases,” and “safe environment,” so the reader can identify the subject and several relevant concerns. However, vocabulary is repetitive and often imprecise, which limits clarity. Phrases such as “disturb with it,” “in every sides,” and “in destroy house” do not express the intended meaning naturally; “body parts like, kidney” is also an awkward way to introduce health effects. Repeated use of “smoking,” “harmful,” and “people” leaves ideas under-specified. Build a more accurate set of expressions for second-hand smoke, public smoking bans, and cessation support, and check collocations and word forms when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few longer structures, including “Because sometimes people have allergy with cigarettes” and “when any teachers do smoking then it is so harmful for students,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors are frequent. Verb forms are often incorrect: “Many people smoking” needs a finite verb, and “they smoking” should be “they smoke” or “they are smoking.” There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction, as in “I think it not true” and “Their health have no problems.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise forming complete clauses with accurate subject–verb agreement and use a small range of controlled complex sentences to explain causes and results.
