Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a controversial debate that sacrificing cattle for the sake of human need is a cruel act and this should be banned in near future. While some people believe that meat is essential requirement of human being and best source of nutrients. But others think that slaughtering animals should not be permissible. I strongly admit the former idea.

Some individuals have a strong argument that animals should life is as important as humans lives. They propose that other options are available for protein intake. For instance individuals can consume some vegetables like soybeans, peas some lentils and even eggs as the best source of protein. Furthermore, methods like electric water baths and captive bolt pistols can fail, causing conscious animals to experience intense pain the exsanguination process. So they have opinion that taking cattle life is not necessarily important for human consumption.

On the other hand, it is argued that mutton and beef are sources of essential proteins required for human amino acids and it could not be replaced by any vegetable or egg. More importantly, meat delivers highly absorbable heme iron, zinc and vitamin B12 which are crucial to prevent anemia and support neurological functions.

In my opinion, slaughtering sheep, cow and goat for human food requirement should not be completely banned instead should practice controlled slaughtering to keep a balance.

In conclusion, fresh meat is the only source of protein and other nutrients that are essential for human so sacrificing animals is not against humanity and should be allowed to meet health requirements of individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt but suffers from a significant contradiction. In the introduction, you state, 'I strongly admit the former idea' (that meat consumption should be banned), yet in the conclusion, you argue that 'sacrificing animals is not against humanity and should be allowed.' This inconsistency makes your position unclear throughout the essay. While you provide relevant arguments for both sides, the lack of a consistent stance prevents the development of a fully coherent argument. To improve, ensure your conclusion aligns with your stated position in the introduction and that your supporting arguments consistently reinforce that specific viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'For instance,' 'Furthermore,' and 'On the other hand' to transition between ideas. However, the logical progression is undermined by the contradictory stance mentioned above. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as 'Some individuals have a strong argument that animals should life is as important as humans lives,' which lacks grammatical flow. Improving the use of linking words to connect your arguments more fluidly would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'exsanguination,' 'nutrients,' and 'neurological functions.' However, there are instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'sacrificing cattle' (usually 'slaughtering' or 'farming') and 'should practice controlled slaughtering' (missing a subject). Some phrasing is repetitive, particularly regarding the discussion of protein sources. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are consistently natural and appropriate for an argumentative essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'animals should life is as important' (incorrect syntax), 'meat is essential requirement' (missing article), and 'it could not be replaced' (incorrect tense/modality). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are missing commas in complex sentences. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
