Student answer (Band 6.5)
It has been observed that people consume non-veg food, which is brutal these days. They have to avoid this type of food to save animals. To a large extent, I agree with this statement. This will be explained in the ensuing paragraphs before my opinion.
To begin with, as the generation grows and technology increases, people adopt many bad habits, including eating chicken and eggs. They follow this trend to improve their taste buds and skin. As a result, animals are brutally killed by humans or some researchers to produce products. It is a serious issue because animals are part of the lifecycle. Furthermore, it will reduce the abundance of important species and increase the risk of diseases such as obesity, dental issues, and bird flu. For instance, the Sikh community (a category of Punjabis) eats pork; hence, pigs have disappeared from the world.
On the negative side, the consumption of meat would improve health and well-being. Although the consumption of meat is considered a fatty food, it provides vitamin B12 and folic acid in large amounts and improves one's skin. Additionally, health professionals advise pregnant women to eat meat and make medicines from animals for health and skin care purposes.
To summarize this, eating meat is considered a bad food habit because it harms animal life. Animals are an essential part of the ecosystem, and protecting them is a key role for every individual. From my perspective, everyone should avoid non-veg in large amounts. They can have it on some occasions but not frequently. The government should introduce strict rules and regulations for this.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. The argument regarding the Sikh community and pigs is factually questionable and lacks logical relevance to the broader topic of animal cruelty. Furthermore, the counter-argument in the third paragraph is somewhat contradictory to the student's stated position, as it highlights the benefits of meat consumption without fully reconciling this with the initial stance against cruelty. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on providing more logical, well-supported arguments that directly address the ethical concerns raised in the prompt rather than relying on generalisations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'On the negative side' are used to guide the reader. However, the progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or disjointed. For instance, the transition between the health benefits of meat and the conclusion is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' to refer to broad concepts. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'ensuing' and 'abundance', but there are also instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'non-veg food' (which is informal) and 'brutal' used to describe food rather than the process. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'improve their taste buds'. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic, precise terminology and avoiding informal or colloquial phrasing to better suit the formal tone required for IELTS writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'people consume non-veg food, which is brutal these days' and 'make medicines from animals for health and skin care purposes'. Punctuation is generally correct, but some sentence constructions are awkward or lack precision. The errors do not typically impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and more accurate preposition usage would be beneficial.
