Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 88 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The essay fails to develop a clear position on the prompt regarding the ethics of meat consumption, instead shifting focus to the nutritional benefits of chicken. Because the response is severely underdeveloped and fails to address the core ethical argument presented in the prompt, it does not meet the requirements for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt to introduce a topic, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraph is abrupt. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, and the overall structure is fragmented. The text does not demonstrate the ability to organise information coherently across a full-length essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'changes' and 'people'. There are also errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'protein in take' (intake) and 'peoples' (people). The range of vocabulary is limited and insufficient to discuss the topic with any degree of precision or sophistication. To improve, you should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic of animal welfare and nutrition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('peoples are', 'person eat') and awkward phrasing. The sentence structures are simple, and the attempt to express complex ideas is hindered by these persistent errors. There is a lack of variety in sentence structure, and the punctuation is inconsistent. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors is high relative to the short length of the text.
